Let me add my question to yours: Why do all these police types all group closely together? Seems that would make them easy to hit. Aren’t soldiers taught to spread themselves out?
They’re not soldiers. Yes, they should have more dispersion as they travel. You cover more area and are less likely to have a mass casualty incident.......especially since the perps are using explosives.
As I recall from my military days long ago: spread out, one gernade will get you all.
Surely on a dynamic entry, the whole squad is not going through the door en masse either.
When you’re about to kick in a door, the unit/squad lines up single-file just before the door gets opened.
It’s called a “stack”. We had to train this way prior to deployment. The idea is to burst through the door rapidly and dominate the space beyond it, overpowering resistance with speed and firepower.
Now that’s how it’s done in the Big Green Suit. You don’t “stack” until you’re about to kick the door. You move tactically, spread out so as to minimize casualties.
These are not soldiers. These are civilian police with tacticool gear and marginal training.

You ever been fishing? Why do the baitfish all mass together when they feel danger? Cause they have a better chance individually in a large, massed group than they do by themselves. Also, they get to discuss and admire their latest tacti-cool gear and weapons....
