Harry Reid wants online sales tax on Senate floor (wants to bypass Baucus)
Politico ^

A state online sales tax fix may leapfrog its way right to the Senate floor.

Majority Leader Harry Reid began the process late Tuesday that would allow the bill, known as the Marketplace Fairness Act, to come before the full chamber without first going through the Senate Finance Committee — whose leaders largely dislike the proposal.

Isn’t the US House responsible for this stuff?

I think only on tax increae laws that pertain to the Feds. This is a state to state issue hopefully which gets trumped by the commerce clause. Poor Barky, all his little endeavors seem to be running head long into that document which he detests so much. Weed, er Reid is doing Barky’s bidding here by embarrassing Baccus by the end run...the good news is nothing good can come from that for Dingy or for Barky.

Exactly why do we need more taxes? This is as much a bald face lie as when that guy who was in the beginning of cable tv told me without blinking an eye yes, cable would have no advertising.

Apparently you just don’t understand. We need more taxes so that we can grow the government. After all, the government is good for you and will take care of your every need.

Right now, the government needs more money so that they can get some more from you later and later and later and later......

Hope you’re right. Hope they both soil themselves in anger. But 0scumbag’s got a drawer full of EOs, and he might just use ‘em. He could give a crap about the US Constitution of Law of The Land.

Online items are already ‘taxed’ by the price of shipping a buyer has to pay.

But the Senate could vote as early as next week on an online sales tax bill, a Senate Democratic aide told “

Now here's one that should be cake to kill. Up till now Dems been cherry picking their issues for ones that poll well, but this one seems like it would be generally unpopular and even Collins should find it easy to oppose.

Living in high tax single party Dem state (Maryland=O Martin Malley) that recently raised sales taxes with many other taxes I love shopping on Amazon so they get nothing in sales taxes.
CA just raised sales taxes too, so much for progressive taxes only on ‘the rich’

Pretty stupid idea for Reid to try to basically raise taxes (rel to high tax states) with the negative consequences for his members that his congress doesn't even get to spend. Who is lobbying him for this?

Well Amazon caved in to sales taxes in Texas. So guess what Amazon? I refuse to pay sales tax and shipping too!

Hopefully he goes all out with the EO’s. I don’t live on federal property, I don’t work for his government. I am not in the military. So, if he tries to enforce any of his executive regulations upon me and others, there will be all hell to pay for that. Even though he thinks he is, he is not emperor. Frankly, he is on a mental development scale equal to the boy king in North Korea.

You’re right. Technically, EO’s only aply to Gov’t employees in Exec Branch, but over the past 10-15yrs, they seem to have taken on the ‘force of law’. It’ll take forever to get a ruling from the courts, especially SCOTUS, which is thoroughly-corrupted.

Max Baucus, author of Obamacare, admits he never read his own bill

According to Baucus, the idea of him reading a bill allocating nearly $1 trillion of federal funds is “a waste of time”:

It's not the Senate's job to introduce taxation bills. But, Reid, if you convince the House to replace the income tax with a sales tax (fair or flat) --- and I do mean *replace* --- then I'll hear you out.

No worries, remember B. Hussein PROMISED he would NOT raise taxes....

: I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year...

— which includes a 98 percent of small-business owners, you will not see your taxes increase one single dime under my plan.

Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax, no tax. We don’t need to raise taxes on the middle class!

You will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat, not one single dime.

Exactly why do we need more taxes?

It's not really about taxes, it's about control.

That said, I actually am in favor, in principle, of an online/mail order/etc. purchase to be subject to sales taxes to the amount of half the normal rate of each of the provider's location and the purchaser's. Using mail/internet order to avoid sales taxes hurts local businesses and generally forces the sales tax rate up to account for the transactions that avoid the tax.

However, from a practical standpoint, this won't work as things currently stand. The problem is that there are too many different taxing jurisdictions and the rules on what is or isn't taxable vary between them as much as the rates themselves do. It's too much of a burden for the seller to accurately collect and remit those taxes.

This would only be feasible if there was a uniform definition of what is or isn't taxable, and that the rates (and collection points) were set at the state, not county or local, level.
