Yet, even if you buy that oversimplified view of history, as conservatives with selective memory often do, Paul completely omitted a much more important sea change, the seismic racial realignment that followed President Lyndon B. Johnson's 1964 Civil Rights Act.
In fact, Republican nominees continued to receive sizable black support; 39 percent to Dwight Eisenhower in his 1956 re-election, according to the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, and 32 percent to his vice president, Richard Nixon, in 1960.
But after conservatives nominated Sen. Barry Goldwater, who voted against the civil rights bill, to oppose Johnson in 1964, LBJ won 94 percent of the black vote. No Republican presidential candidate has received more than 15 percent of the black vote since.

Is someone doesn't want my business, I'll wish them a good day and go find someone who does. Rather than one business forced to cater to all, there should be businesses who cater to whoever they wish.
Here in Michigan, rather than opening non smoking bars, non smokers fought to force all bar owners to ban smoking in their private establishments.

Paul has said he would have debated parts of it and voted for the final bill.

Yes, it is nuts.
ComDem Crazy = Nuts
- ...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said. [Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften [immigration, gay marriage] stance]
- One day after announcing on his radio show that he is "truly considering" running in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by New Jersey's Frank Lautenberg, Rivera amped up his message today in a television interview and a column on the Fox News Latino website... a moderate Republican who is fiscally conservative but also supports gay marriage and Roe v. Wade... [Geraldo Rivera declares himself a 'moderate Republican' as he eyes U.S. Senate run]

These Negroes, theyre getting pretty uppity these days and thats a problem for us since theyve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now weve got to do something about this, weve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. ~Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat)
"President Lyndon Baines Johnson, And is Great Society to help the Negro
was recorded on a White House taped (and saved) conversation claiming, Ill have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.

Goldwater is treated as a racist but he was a founding member of the Arizona NAACP and supported a very limited version of affirmative action in the public sector. And, as commander of the Arizona Air National Guard, he requested the honor of integrating the first military combat unit.
His wish was granted and a successful integration followed -- in 1947, I believe it was.

Lyndon B. Johnson's 1964 Civil Rights Act. Sheesh, I can't get past the first paragraph without flushing a turkey.
IIRC, that act was only Johnson's after he saw the train going past him. He didn't write it, he didn't want it, but signed on after it was clear it would pass (with Republican support) anyway.
