ALBANY, N.Y. - A high school English teacher in New York state who had students pretend to be Jew-hating Nazis in a writing assignment has been placed on leave.
The teacher at Albany High School caused a storm of criticism after having students practice the art of persuasive writing by penning a letter to a fictitious Nazi government official arguing that "Jews are evil."
District Superintendent Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard held a news conference Friday to apologize for the assignment.
The Times Union newspaper reported on Saturday that the teacher was not in class on Friday and had been placed on leave by the school district.

I’d like the class to write on the topic “Democrats are the Enemies of Freedom”.

Students are asked everyday to think like little commies, and the commies killed 10 TIMES as many people as the Nazi’s !

If they’re DemocRAT wannabes, they don’t have to be told to think like Nazis. They’re already doing that.

The teacher is just preparing the children for life under Obama. The only problem is that she got caught and there was nobody to kill the students who refused.

Sounds like a great candidate for head of the NEA or she could run for Congress as a Liberal RAT. Another possibility is for her to run as Bloomie’s replacement in NYC.

-> For the assignment, the teacher asked students to research Nazi propaganda, then write a letter trying to convince an official of the Third Reich “that Jews are evil and the source of our problems.”
And she just got suspended; not fired. Oh, guess she just got caught. The influential people over our nation's children are some of the worse ones we have ever had to be concerned with.

Interestingly back in the 50’s this sort of an assignment was pretty common. I remember in 7th grade doing a project about Nazi's that included writing denunciations. There was also a unit on communism in which the same sort of thing was done. The idea was to teach one how powerful and insidious totalitarian ideologies were. I admit many of the males, including several who were Jews got into the spirit of the event pretty enthusiastically. Our teacher, who was a very well educated lady from New England and had lived the 30’s and 40’s experience used this as a teaching point. No rebukes just a homily on ‘see how easy it is to become a Nazi Hitler Youth or a Young Pioneer. See how insidious these regimes are with their powerful images and martial display and nifty uniforms.’ I don't know what this teacher was trying to do but i know showing kids how you can easily end up a true believing totalitarian is pretty powerful and sobering.

You’re talking about a history lesson and not about a simpleminded English exercise. I mean what a simpleton this teacher is. “Jews evil”. Uhuh.

Paid leave, I am sure and they will bring this teacher back when we move onto the next outrage. I hope someone who lives in Albany finds out the name of this teacher. Would like to write him/her a letter myself.

Actually it was that product of the shotgun wedding of history and Government known as ‘Social Studies’. Social Studies was an excuse for making both subjects pablum and mush in many places but this was in Northern Virginia and the Cold War was on at full blast. The elementary school i went to was stuffed with either military kids or government workers kids . The latter were then before Viet Nam ‘Cold aWar liberals ‘ almost o a man or woman. That really means 50’s Neo-cons. Everyone more or less figured war with the Soviets was in the cards and the teachers had been around for the 30’s and then the Big War. This was Deweyesque ‘Progressive Ed’ with a real purpose. We took German or Russian names, studied the organization and operations of both the CPUSSR and the NSDAP and tried for several months to ‘live the life’ of a Hitler Jugund or BDM or a Young Pioneer. We organized 'partc cells' and even had drills simulating the slavish adulation of Hitler or Stalin & Co. We all knew the commies were bast-rds we just wanted to 'know the enemy'. It was really intense and we knew who we were, the next generation to face the forces of totalitarianism on the battlefields of either the Cold War or WWIII. Those were intense times and it is impossible for young people today to grasp how serious a business the Cold War was.
