We had a lockdown drill some time ago. One of my colleagues told me that during the drill, he found himself wishing for a shotgun. He wasn’t the only one..... My opinion is that if we had a shift in the rules we’d have armed teachers at my school, although not the majority, as women seem to be generally opposed to the notion. My most immediate colleagues pooh-pooh the notion of not being competent- some have been Marines and a majority of the rest own guns themselves or their husbands do. Nice not being in a Yankee union school....
I think that if a teacher can’t be trusted with a gun, they can not be trusted with children.
I also don’t think the majority of teachers need to be armed in school It’s OK if it is a majority, but if you have 10% or a critical mass of 5-6 armed teachers and staff, that should generally do. Just as long as it’s not just one or two.
