The gun bill passed cloture in the Senate with 68 votes today.
How does this happen, in what we are told is the worlds greatest deliberative body, when senators have not even seen the text of the legislation?
Speaking on the Senate floor minutes before the vote to move gun-control legislation forward, Mike Lee (R., Utah) urged postponing the cloture vote because none of his Senate colleagues has yet had a chance to read the entire bill. Were trying to prevent the ability of members to push through legislation before anyone has had the time to read and evaluate the language, Lee said. As of this morning, as of this very moment, not a single senator has been provided the legislative text of the background-check provision proposed yesterday by senators Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey, which Lee said was the centerpiece of this legislation.
The cloture vote does not guarantee that the bill will pass, but it does now put it up to a simple majority vote in the Senate. Democrats have the majority in the Senate, and often vote with their party rather than vote with what their constituents want. They did that very thing when they passed ObamaCare, and had not read that bill before passing it either. Democrat Mary Landrieu, for instance, is from a red state, but shell do what the party tells her to do after extracting some meaningless concessions. The pressure will then mount on the House to kill it. Obamas political army OFA is already emailing its minions to keep the pressure up on Congress to pass the bill which no one has actually read.
But table that for a minute. President Obama promised that Americans would have 72 hours to read bills, which would be posted online, before they would be voted on or passed. Instead of that, we have an opaque government that continues voting on laws that even members of Congress have not read.
This is unacceptable in a republic. We should not be passing bills in order to find out what is in them.
We are awake.
You are preaching to the choir.
Who have you taken to the range to learn how to shoot?
I am not trying to be rude.
But this is the only way to educate low information voters.
Take someone hunting or to the range.
It works.
IS IT SATIRE OR IS IT FACT
Not clear if this if this is true or not but heard there is are a number of provisions in this proposed legislation which contains the following. These are found in pages 244, 357 and 756 respectively
Pages 244, paragraph 24, section 3, subsection 2, sentence 24 refers to previous legislation public law 16A 3.25 directing the Attorney General to enforce the purpose of gun bill to be equally applied and not just directed toward areas of known crimainal activity . Areas where there has been opposition to gun control reform should be suspected of infraction and be given special attention by the Attorney General ..
Page 357 Paragraph 2 sentence 6 Limits infrractions to firearms mentioned in the bill.(no hand guns) and makes no recomendation for stricter penalties for any criminal activity where hand guns are used.
Page 756 of billl paragraph 5 sub section 4 (et cetera et cetera) refers to public law which allows the Attorney gGneral to isolate questionable areas(declaration of martial law) known to be opposed to 2nd amendment changes and allow searches for suspected firearm violations after which there would be a similar isolation and sequestering of areas known for illegal activity to conduct house to house searches and seizures for weapons.
I’d like to know if this is true and what’s in this legislation
This is idiotic. Every single Senator that votes to move a bill forward without bothering to read and understand it should immediately step down. They are grossly negligent of their duties.
OK, chew on this one for a bit.
“Ammo must be transported in locked container vehicle or foot.....
2) transport ammunition for any lawful purpose from any place where the person may lawfully possess, carry, or transport the ammunition, to any other such place if, during the transportation-
“(A) the ammunition is not loaded into a firearm; and
“(B)(i) if the transportation is by motor vehicle-
“(I) the ammunition is not directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle; or
“(II) if the motor vehicle is without a compartment separate from the passenger compartment, the ammunition is in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console; or
“(ii) if the transportation is by other means, the ammunition is in a locked container.”

I am advised, there are numerous “add-on” amendments that will also be tied to the bill AFTER if has been approved. Fienstien of Cal. has something that will likely kill all gun ownership if/when what she is proposing is added.
This whole damn thing MUST BE DEFEATED! Call every one of your representatives to KILL THE BILL!!!!!!
We have created monsters that now want to control us
Looking for some clarification on this mess. Saw last night on Hannity segment on this bill, that personal sales are excluded. Any truth to that?
Also, when these morons talk of background checks, do they mean the NICS checks?
Because, if personal sales are excluded and the background checks are indeed the NICS checks, then what in the hell is this bill all about? That stuff is already in place. I know everyone is talking about registration, etc, but the bill doesn’t solve any of the issues that they’ve been bringing up after Lanza.
Nothing but a bunch of Do-Nothing politicians, doing nothing.
Congress is no longer a body of representation of the people. It is a Marxist dictatorship that we no longer need.
You're right, this is a real, live demonstration of post-constitutional, totalitarian government.
We are officially in the “spectators” section. I think Americans are getting that...s-l-o-w-l-y....
They might be, but if you're a potential seller and want to find a potential buyer, how would you do that?
Any FFL is now required to NIC-check you, which puts you on the Illegal Secret National Registry that the FBI and ATF have been illegally building for 15-20 years now. Ditto any gun show operator or seller, if the bill passes.
They want you on the list, to kick your door in at midnight and take your firearms at gunpoint. It's that simple.
Bunch of collectivist maroons.
IMHO
