Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87.

Mad world is my favorite comedy movie of all time
RIP Mr Winters
That great line reminds me o@ an equally great one by the late Mitch Hedberg, (dead at 37)
“I’m sick o@ @ollowing my dreams.
I’m just gonna @ind out where they’re going and hook up
with ‘em later”
Me either but I didn't find him obnoxious either. Other comedians, I consider unfunny but not obnoxious are Bob Hope, Dennis Miller et al.
Both obnoxious and unfunny - the Three Stooges, Robin Williams et al.
(Remember folks, this forum is about opinions and everybody has one.)
Yup, first thing that hit my mind when I started reading the thread about his passing.
Those were great Tonight shows when Winters was on.
RIP Mr. Winters, thanks for all the laughs you brought to us.
What a great story-—Babe Ruth (who now that I think ov it,
resembled Winters)-used to drive his car into neighborhoods around Yankee Stadium in the 20s and 30s, and pretending to have car trouble, starting kicking his tires, waiting @or some neighborhood kids to see him and come over so he could interact w./ them. Those days o@ accessibility are OVER.
That must have been simply great!
I loved that guy! Maudie Frickert will live forever. :-)
What’s that man doing down by the lake?
“Yes, what is he doing? Shame on you, Eddie. That’s what’s killin’ all the fish!”
They say for years every morning he’d leave his Santa Barbara home and walk down to a neighborhood gas station and get coffee. And he hang out there for hours shootin’ the breeze. They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
Ah, poor Mearth!
He used to be a Saturday morning regular at the Marie Callender’s restaurant in Toluca Lake. I saw him there on a couple of occasions. I remember him sitting at a table by the window, when a couple walked by outside and obviously recognized him. He noticed and started making comical faces over his food, as if he was a dog suddenly becoming protective of his bowl.
I loved the bit on his TV show when he’d stroll through his attic, pick up various objects and start doing improvisational riffs on them.
I’m sorry to hear this, but frankly I thought he already was....RIP Mr. Winters.
He made the act of throwing a bicycle, the funniest thing I’ve ever seen....and I crack up every time I think about it.
I too, didn’t care for his comedy at all. It was like he tried too hard. Same thing with Robin Williams, I can’t stand him either.
Sorry he died though, RIP.
Yes, and also seeing him in “Its A Mad, Mad, Mad World” and then Mork & Mindy. .
That is very cool!
RIP, Mr. Winters.
He fought with demons, as all creative geniuses do. Jonathan was an artist, an author, a storyteller, and a truly original American talent. RIP and God bless you for making me laugh so hard.
One of my favorite Maudie Frickert bits: During an interview, she pulls out a flask and takes a drink.
Interviewer: What’s that?
Maudie: This is my favorite brew, Old Cardtable.
Interviewer: Old Cardtable?
Maudie: Yes. Old Cardtable. One nip and your legs fold up.
Rest in peace, Mr. Winters.
