Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87.

Don Rickles is still going strong at 86 too.
He was a great one, very outside the box for his time.
I think Robin Williams stole a lot of JW technique.
What, no Dorothy Provine? I understand why you haven’t put up a photo of The Merm...
I think they used writers to come up with the jokes. That’s why they are always staring straight ahead at the cue cards.

” Come here little girl”
Mad Mad World?
Amen to that. RIP. Mr. Winters...you’re no doubt reuniting with the good friends who have gone before...
Yep, “under da big Dubba-ya!”
So sad. Very funny man. RIP.
Wow! All the STARS in that picture should blind us! Those were the days, huh?
i loved that movie
Many of the best comedians are gone now, and much of what goes for comedy today I just don't find particularly funny.

From an era when clean humor had a big place in society and some really decent souls populated television shows. God I miss the America of my childhood.
Those were amazing. What they show on Comedy Central today as "roasts" are awful. My father, who was a member of "The Friars Club" would be disgusted by the current "roasts." If "The Friars Club" is still behind them, they should be ashamed.

Kind of like Red Skelton. He wouldn’t make it today.
This is very sad to me.
I was so taken by Jonathan, I watched the early Tonight
show just to see him and all his character impressions.
He was THE boldest and nuttiest comic available on TV at the
time. I walked around High School doing impressions o@ his
impressions, just to amuse my buddies.
One o@ them signed my Yearbook, “To Bill, the Jonathan Winters o$ our Graduating Class.”
Jonathan Winters is one my favorites. My Brother-in-Law, too. In April 1994, we were putting together a tribute video for my B-I-L. One weekend that month, we went up to Solvang, CA for a weekend. Heading home, we stopped for gas in Buellton, just before hopping back down the 101, when, lo and behold, my wife and her sister said, “look, Jonathan Winters is over there filling his car”.
I grabbed my video camera and asked Mr. Winters if he could say “Happy Birthday” to my b-i-l, and the brilliant man that he is, went into a 2 minute skit about his gas mileage and then that lack of money in my pocket to pay him tribute. So hilarious! What a gem of a treat!
