Retired Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus declared to Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview that Obamacare is going to kill off small business.
If [employees] are thrown out of their medical plans now, where theyre covered in a good plan and thrown under the bus, theyre going to be destroyed, Marcus said on Thursday. If, in fact, they dont stay as full-time employees but go to part-time employees, theyre going to be destroyed.
He talked to Newsmax at the Job Creators Alliance Free Enterprise Leadership Summit in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
People have to understand that the villain is not their employer; the villain is the U.S. government, Marcus added. Obamacare is the capper. Thats the bullet to the temple.
Marcus, who retired from Home Depot in 2002, established the Job Creators Alliance two years ago. The nonprofit group seeks to advocate for entrepreneurs and small-business owners.

You make some great points, and they all show that economic liberty - the freedom to run a small business or work for a big one - the freedom to shop with a small one or a big one - is the answer. There are a lot of great small businesses - but a lot of awful ones also. Many times, it’s that awfulness that keeps them small. Many times not. Every big business, unless it’s a crony solyndra or something, started off small and they became big because they were the best of all the smalls at one time. Bernie and his founders did not, and could not, have forseen the stance the new HD would take on social issues nor could they have anticipated how immigration problems would have played out over 40 years.
They had a dream. Took a big chance. And won more than they lost....day by day. And took hundreds of thousands of others with them to the American dream. Meanwhile, many small businesses thrive and are fantastic fourty years later too...staying small. It’s all good.....its’ called liberty.
Sadly I’m not sure sure. A whole lot of people want “free stuff” from the government. They simply don’t care that it is taken from “rich people”. They think it’s “fair”.
That’s the plan. And unless we can get a few million people out to Washington DC to hear our voices, nothing will stop it any of what the POS is pushing.
There’s nothing you can say or do that will open that person’s eyes and ears. Their love for him cannot be explained. =
They remind me of the version of Carters and Wakefields on Andy Griffith. Andy asked Carter why he was feudin’ with the Wakefields.
The answer was “Cause he’s a Wakefield.”
“But why are you feudin’ just because he’s a Wakefield?”
“Cause they’re a-shootin’ as us.”
“Reckon why they’re a-shootin’ at you?”
“Cause we’re Carters.”
“Well, reckon why that makes ‘em wanta’ shoot at you?”
“Well, that’s easy. ‘Cause we’re shootin’ at them.”
“Well, why are you stootin at them?”
“Cause they’re Wakefields.”
Isn’t the current Home Depot CEO all for Obama?
They were informed. You have to realize those who voted for him would do so again. They dont care what he says or what he does. They just hate republicans and Sarah Palin."If only Papa Joe knew. He'd put a stop to this."
Basically Im saying theyre stupid. Tell them about Hitler and theyll say That will never happen here. And once theyre in the FEMA camps theyll say This aint obamas fault. He loves us.
It’s going to take someone like Ted Nugent teaming with some politician like Ted Cruz to call for a march on Washington. And millions of Americans show up with their unloaded guns.
(The Black Panthers protested a Texas execution carrying unclipped M-16s. Maybe white folks could get away with it.)
Would the politicians want a “war” in front of the capital? I think it would either scare the hell out of them or give them the opportunity to scare the rest of America by having their “army” stop the protest.
Bottom line: If there’s ever going to be a protest with weapons used as props, it better happen quick. Otherwise the only protest will be done with shovels and rakes and sticks. The guns will be gone.
Actually you will not and it would be extremely naive/disingenuous (your pick) to say that.
I am a fan of our local small businesses and will support them whenever I can. But, be it HD or Lowes, Target or Walmart, they employ more local people than any small business could even imagine. And they do not hire illegal immigrants.
Good people cannot have a meaningful dialogue about issues with the absence of truth.
God willing that will happen soon.
And how many young white guys are in the HD parking lots before dawn waiting for a chance to work?
I overheard two guys talking several years ago about working construction. One guy was a boss and was talking about how the Mexicans showed up every day and worked hard while the young white guys showed up when they felt like it, avoided working hard and once they got their checks, weren’t seen for a couple of days.
You do the math.
Shoppers are stupid. They don’t know quality, if they did, they wouldn’t be buying the Chinese crap that has taken over the stores. Shoppers don’t know how to buy things that will last and they don’t take care of the stuff they buy.
I don’t follow shoppers. I have some things. a lot of antiques and a good house. I don’t throw stuff out and I repair and maintain what I have. HD does not have the expertise to assist me.
and They support gay marriage which I choose not to by not shopping there.
All of that is fine - your decisions are made in liberty, and I respect them.
But for you to say that “shoppers are stupid” is exorbitantly arrogant on your part - as if you are the only “non stupid” shopper. To say that you don’t “follow shoppers” is too inane to even comment on, except to say that you are not interested in market realities. Shoppers ARE market reality. Get over it.
The same market that allows you to collect and shop as you do in liberty allows others to be “stupid” - and yet, you are too ignorant to understand that. I have several good houses, no interest in antiques, and no interest in repairing stuff myself. Actually, I have little interest in “stuff” for the most part. My decisions are made in liberty, like yours. And it is you and I, and millions of others, who are the market. HD is a product of that, having met that market better than anyone else - nothing more and nothing less.
Go enjoy your antiques. As a collector told me the other day, they aren’t worth anything any more. Can’t give ‘em away.
>>they wouldnt be buying the Chinese crap that has taken over the stores<<
Stanley Tools [some of the best hand and power tools on the planet]...moved their production to China. Through multiple mergers and acquisitions, Stanley owned DeWalt, Bostitch, Mac, Craftsman, Husky, Kobalt....yada...good stuff made in China.
We’re doomed. :)
Of course, because killing off small businesses reduces competition.
Fascism works this way. And the government likes it at well (forgive the reification) because a few large companies are easier to control than a bunch of small ones.
"...Cynical, ego-centric people who can look into your eyes with angelic expression and tell you a lie. This are the most recruitable people; people who lack moral principals - who are either too greedy or too, uh, suffer from self-importance, uh, they feel that they matter a lot. Uh, these are the people who KGB wanted very much to recruit. "

“All your hand job are berong to us. Ha Ha Ha”.
which is exactly what happened at the Gulag camps. They were fooled all the way to their deaths.
yea, it’s ok to start a small business as long as you don’t expand and offer bigger selections and lower prices. Soon other towns will want the shopping experience and more people will want to work for you and you will be greedy and build more stores and ruin the economy./sarc
