Washington (CNN) - The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to overcome a Republican-led filibuster against tougher gun laws, clearing the way for a major congressional debate on a package of proposals sought by President Barack Obama in the aftermath of the Connecticut school massacre.
The procedural vote followed a breakthrough by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, and Pat Toomey, R-Pennsylvania,

Who are the RINOs who sold us out?
It isn’t really the worst thing that could happen. Now they all have to go on the record and we get our list of who to vote out of office in 2014. Plus this is going nowhere in the House.

it doesn’t matter what the senate does. this is DOA in the house.
Both the RINOs from Tennessee joined the traitors.

There will be a lot of pressure on Boehner to bring the senate bill to the House floor. I’d prefer that the House pass it’s own bill and the senate and house go to conference. They’ve been doing whatever possible to not have conferernce committees. They want to get both houses to pass bills quickly so the president can have legislative victories.
Also, I’m sure Pelosi will try to get a discharge petition to bring the senate bill to the House floor, and she needs only 218 signatures for that. And moderates love helping the democrats undermine conservatives.
Alexander is up for reelection next year. Any chance of a primary challenge?

It really does matter. These so called republicans are traitors to the constitution and their constituents that put them in office to fight, not give in.
I haven’t heard anything, but one can always hope.
I think the assessment is that red state Democrats will use this opportunity to vote against the legislation, because everyone knows it will never pass the House, that way they can run back their constituents and say “see! I voted against it!”. It’s a ploy.
it.doesn’t.matter.
This is very disheartening. Why bother sending money to DeMint
Georgia can do so much better.
Exactly! Which is why they aren't even considering any weapons or magazine bans. Reid decided that he isn't going to have his Senators that may be in tough races left vulnerable by potentially suicidal votes, which would be all for nothing because the House will leave them 'holding the bag'. This is why we're seeing a more benign bill brought up, because it's the only type of bill that would stand a snowball's chance in hell of even being brought up for a vote in the House. (of course, this is all assuming the House GOP having a backbone, ect...ect)
It does matter, there are a LOT of gutless Republican traitors in the house, too.
We already know who those people are. They need to stop using our God-given rights as a political gotcha game.
"Plus this is going nowhere in the House."
It could, and should, have been killed dead in the Senate. When will Republicans learn to quit falling back and stand and fight for once?
Let the Senators vote for gun control & take their chances at reelection.
Stockman’s going send it back to the Senate because the universal background checks generate revenue and Senate cannot originate a bill that does so.
