Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele on Tuesday said he doesn't understand why gun owners fear the registration of their firearms.
"I don't get the fear of registration," Steele said on MSNBC. "I don't get the, the concern about trafficking. Are we saying that we want criminals to, you know, make back-alley sales out of the trunks of their cars?"
Steele was part of a panel on MSNBC's "The Daily Rundown," during which former Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) said that responsible gun owners insure their guns, which means they're registered. "I mean, I don't understand," she said.
MSNBC host Chuck Todd agreed with Steele. "It feels like we're protecting the rights of the paranoid about government, rather than, sort of, the reasonable," he said.
As TPM has reported, the National Rifle Association has long warned that expanding background checks would lead to a national gun registry.

i really doubt he doesn’t understand the concern. I really get offended when they try to pass off their lies like they don’t get it when they totally do. It’s growing mighty thin. In short I hate it when republicans treat us to feigned ignorance like the democrats always do.
If I can understand it anyone can.
True. Very true.
Is it “Washington” who changes local conservatives into DC-liberals? Or is it 20-30 years of DC-liberal news bias that slowly changes them into liberals by filtering their words to AND from the original republicans? Or do only liberal republicans get into positions of GROPe leadership BECAUSE they are actually liberals?
I don’t think they understand it at all. All their friends in NYC & DC see no problem. I don’t think they understand that they are never going to win NY again, probably never win CA again, and their ONLY hope is a huge showing in between.
They called for money last night, and I once again told them I don’t give money to Pro-homosexual, anti-gun, pro-abortion people. They don’t get it, but I do - they are NOT on my side. Right now, it seems like no one is...
Short of California dropping into the ocean (at least LA & SF), I see no reason to think the US will ever be great again.
He still has contacts inside the GOP and I’m sure he’s just repeating RINO talk.
And registering guns stops school, theater, and army base massacres... how?
Well Mike,do you understand the fear some people have of living in a totalitarian country?
It’s very simple, Mike. You’re a tool.
First him, then Bonehead.
Where do they get these guys? NYT classified ads?
Yes, it is.
“Ex” is irrelevant.
Why he was ever elected chairman in the first place is far more relevant.

And, we the People will reap the "benefits" of it. Terrible stuff!
“Clueless” doesn’t even begin to describe these fools.
Are you saying that gun registration will stop criminals from making back-alley sales out of the trunks of their cars?
Dear Michael Steele: Stop disappointing us. Improve your game, and I mean considerably, or go away.
(from an ex-Michael Steele fan.)
I’m going with the latter.
They’re liberal/Leftists who have worked tirelessly to fulfill plank 15 of the 45 declared goals of Communists in the USA.
Short of California dropping into the ocean (at least LA & SF), I see no reason to think the US will ever be great again.

Actually I take complete issue with that assertion.
With one proviso:
GOP start acting American, and incidentally start acting like opposition. But do both of those things.
Stop selling stuff from China. Stop exporting production. Bring back factories, and set-up our import and export laws in America so that we continue with BALANCED trade with everyone in the world.
But perhaps most important is, take America’s side in every standoff.
That is how the GOP will stand tall again.
I knew what you meant, right away.
Same reason he fears registering illegals is the same reason we fear registration.
Perhaps if the GOP would try to win elections by EXPLAINING conservatism, instead of ABANDONING it, we would have a future.
