Via Legal Insurrection, between this and Krystal Balls Socratic dialogue with a five-year-old about gay marriage, evidently it was indoctrination weekend at MSNBC. The novelty here isnt the sentiment, its the candor. Hillary made this same point more digestible for the public by ladling on warm-fuzzy sauce about a village raising a child together. (Similarly, dont think of huge government programs as budget-busting liabilities. Theyre Christmas presents!) Harris-Perry had 30 seconds to give her version of the same point; when youre operating within those time constraints, there may be no way to make the pitch in terms less creepy than this. I almost want to congratulate her for throwing a word as clammy as collective in there. It shows a certain bravado.
Heres your counterpoint, from 2011, on whether the U.S. is investing enough in education. Another half-trillion or so ought to turn things around, I think. No wonder Ron Pauls getting into home-schooling.

"We're not raising socialists."
They hate the truth, because their father hates the truth.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
“Oh, my kids’ school isn’t like that!”
Oh, yes it is.
indeed!
Thanks, I had no idea who she was actually. First time ever heard about this person and MSNBC host.
I’m more pissed at this pronouncement that Fatty Kim threatening us.
There’s more real possibility of a threat coming from the left than there is from Kim Un.
This sort of nonsense is right out of Lenin's and Hitler's agendas. By breaking the parent/child bond, you remove much of the humanization of the children, and it allows them to become informers on their parents.
The interesting thing is that the left in the US has done all they could for the last few decades to break the bonds between fathers and their children. Now they're working on breaking the childrens' bonds to their mothers, or in some cases, the parents.

Sorry, doesn’t look like the same gal.
Mrs WBill and I had a speech therapist (wife of a friend of mine) actually tell us that by limiting the amount of television our kids watch, we'd stunt their verbal growth.
I suppose that's why my parents only grunt at each other and point at things. Neither one had TV as a kid....
One very good thing that came out of the exchange was that it became an excellent learning opportunity for Mrs WBill....she *used to be* of the mindset ... "Hey, this person has a PhD, they're an expert!!!". This comment was so egregious that even she said, "Waitaminute..." especially as it was her idea to limit TV time, to begin with. :-) I love teachable moments.
A simple word complexity analysis of 8 hours of TV would put the lie to that. We’re talking 3rd grade level at the highest.
A daily reading of the Bible? Probably 12th grade level exposure at least.
Oh, and another comment...
the “tyranny of the expert” is a lot of what we’re living under.
When we were discussing a certain topic with a lib-in-law and presenting refuting evidence and logic, her final appeal was “it must be true because so many smart people believe it”.
Hello Nazi Germany! Those people need to be shoved against a wall and ....!
Fine then Ms. Hyphen, my kid needs braces - I’ll just send you the bill.
Melissa Harris Perry has had her Saturday and Sunday morning show for a while but I first started seeing her appear as a guest on Maddow maybe once or twice a week , and like with her weekend show as a maddow guest she was always :
1) Introduced as a brilliant professor and subject matter expert, and praised endlessly
2) Always smiling and looking upbeat even though her topics (expertise) are/is beating up on evil racist Republicans or white males or ‘the rich’ who are irrational haters or greedy or stupid whatever.(this is contrast to many of the male hosts like Sharpton)
My conclusion is that they were prepping the audience for her eventual show.
It takes a Village Idiot to try and take a child from his parents, sadly we all know that the government is especially now populated by a very large number of village idiots!
Consider it a metaphor... ;-)
Bingo. Of course, this incident was years ago. Mrs WBill was fresh out of college, newly accorded a Master's Degree, and still a little (truth be told, more than a little...) brainwashed.
She's over it, now. Kids have a tendency to do that. Also, me showing her that there's more to life than mind-numbed academic zombies helped a little. :-) She still teaches at a local community college, occasionally comes home with "You'll NEVER believe THIS!!" -type stories. Sadly, I always do. What the heck, they still pay her a salary, and at least she recognizes the BS for what it is.
Oh, and you'll be glad to hear that my kids can communicate just fine, even with minimal TV exposure. I guess that they're just above average. :-) :-)
