Ex-Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher diesBreaking news Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died at 87 following a stroke, her spokesman has said.
Lord Bell said: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning."
Baroness Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990.
She was the first woman to hold the post. Her family is expected to make a further statement later.

Please, fellow MDer, stop making me cry!
God Bless her and may she Rest In Peace. Prayers up for her family and loved ones. Ah, when giants walked the Earth.
the liberal media makes me physically ill...I so look forward to the end of obamas term in office...three plus years to go...lets party when it arrives...
Our flags should be at half mast. But don’t count on it happening due to the socialist we have in the White House now.
R.I.P, Baroness Thatcher.
She, Ronald Reagan and Pope Jean Paul II are reunited in Heaven for the world-changing work they did.
The news showed a clip of what I believe was Ronald Reagan’s funeral; she touched the casket respectfully (and may even have kissed it), then curtsied. It was quite touching.
“Sure hope nobody at Freep gave Hollywood a penny for the despicable movie.”

I sure didn’t.
“Well done Lady, well done and welcome home.”

Now I’m crying. I wonder if we will see such monumental leaders as Madame Thatcher, President Reagan, Pope Jean Paul II, and, as a previous poster mentioned, Lech Walesa, in our lifetime. They are sorely needed.
IIRC correctly from President Reagan’s funeral, they each made video tapes to be played at their respective funerals; they both knew their faculties were failing and wanted to pay tribute while they still could.
Yes, she was a chemist; I can’t remember what it is, but she contributed to the invention of a substance (?).
I hope Reagan did make a tribute. I believe Nancy is will be attending her funeral.
I join in prayer for all those dealing with Baroness Thatcher’s homegoing and thank God for her!
Along with Pope John Paul II.
It was an incredible experience. They changed our world for the better, and I was a witness, as was my oldest child, now an adult, for which I am very grateful. On the personal level, I got to see Ronnie and Nancy close up at a Washington gala to which I was a production associate and they were just incredibly elegant; I walked several miles and stood for hours to be at a huge, gigantic outdoor gathering for Pope John Paul II even though I'm not Roman Catholic; and only wish I had the opportunity to meet that other architect of the survival of the West, Baroness Thatcher. Even then, I didn't quite realize how profoundly historic it was until around the time Reagan died. Then my son and I stood in line in the hot summer for around 6 hours to get into the Capitol Rotunda and pay our respects to his remains lying in state there.
I'm off now to check the London online newspapers. For me, even the Jubilee is likely to be eclipsed by this.
I added a few more photos here:

May the Iron Lady rest in peace.
Thatcher hardly gave "unending support" anyway. She did introduce private medical care while she was in office (she herself was a member of such a system) and she did do away with some of the worst excesses of the Public Health system, but anything further will have to be left to her successors.
Totally pointless activity of course. Why on earth would you want to help pushing back the boundaries of Human Knowledge, save money, and increase the longevity of food when you could be doing really important things like "community organising"?
About at the same level as Albania probably.
