Japan Defense Minister Officially Authorizes SDF Forces Shoot Down N. Korean Missile (Breaking)
Yahoo Japan Headline News (original in Japanese) from Japanese news sources ^ | 7 April 2013 | Yahoo! News Japan (original in Japanese)

Posted on 04/07/2013 6:59:27 AM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

Japan's Defense Minister issued the official military order within the hour or so. It has been stated in news commentary that the North's Musudan intermediate ballistic missile which is an extreme threat to Japan and had been suddenly moved to North Korea's east coast just two days ago for possible launch without warning, without any kind of statement to international space or aviation bodies for a "test launch" of a missile, means that North Korea could launch a sneak missile launch without any warning to the world. So Japan's Defense Minister ordered Japan Self Defense Forces (SDF) into readiness with PAC-3 anti missile batteries to be activated along Japan's West Coast facing North Korea in the event any missile or portions of missile head toward Japanese territory. It will be shot down if a) called for and b) possible. Link to Japanese story. (They are not going to sit around and wait until a surprise launch on Wednesday next week aimed in the area of Japan).

Wouldn’t it be convenient for China, in the midst of a territorial dispute with Japan, if the NORKS provoked them into a war........

It would be terribly INconvenient for China if the NORKS provoked Japan into declaring "We are now a nuclear power too".

I keep thinking how hilarious it would be if the NKors launched a missile towards Japan, that suddenly veered North to Vladivostok. I imagine that Putin would turn several different colors of ticked off.

Japan is not a nuclear power only because they choose not to be. I believe they have the information and the technical capability to create nuclear weapons. If the NKs launch a nuke figure Japan will probably successfully intercept it, a couple of months later several NK military installations disappear from aircraft delivered weapons.

Dear Tiny Kim,

Japan is one sleeping giant you do NOT want to awaken. If you launch a missile at them, they WILL demand to become a nuclear power, and I don’t think anyone could mount a logical argument to stop them. Some of us would stand on the sidelines and applaud them.

Japan will at least will be on battle readiness status against North Korea>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Which is a whole lot more than you can say about Japan's Ally, the United States of America.

Obama has been caught with his pants down, and he uis conducting a campaihn about supporting Japan, but nothing is really being done on the ground other than moving a few resources around.

All BS, this just means if they fire it at Japan. We should be destroying all NK missile launches.

Will our fearless leader back Japan or will he bow down to the communists like he did to the middle-eastern-death-cult leaders?

Via POWERLINE:
Missile Defense, Then and Now

Readers of a certain age will recall the battles over missile defense that raged during the Reagan administration. Virtually all Democrats opposed all forms of missile defense, deeming the concept not only unfeasible–”like hitting a bullet with a bullet,” as though that were impossible–but destabilizing as well. John Kerry’s denunciations of missile defense were typical: “a dream based on illusion, but one which could have real and terrible consequences,” As recently as 2008, Barack Obama said that he didn’t “agree with a missile defense system” and promised to slash funding for development of such systems. He did, too.

I tend to agree..Many are now concerned that there has been so many threats coming out of NK for almost a month now, how could he ever back down without becoming the brunt of the world’s jokes?

Others believe NK has built up more armaments than has been revealed and NK is becoming overly confident.

My bet is this becomes war soon, or later, but it’s going to happen.

I just hope it doesn’t compromise their readiness to combat monsters.

Remember, Japan is still the only nation to have thousands of citizens squashed.

It is extremely academic if they can hit one, but they very well may be able to get a modified scud or Nodong on Musudan and bring it down either over the Sea between DPRK and Korea, or somewhere over Japanese land, hopefully not near a populated area. To do so I would say they would be very lucky

They're only going to shoot down a missile launch if it fails (particularly true of the PAC-3s). The current Aegis BMD missile has very limited capability against the Musudan going to it's full estimated range, so the Norks could lob one OVER Japan with very little chance of it being intercepted.

Missile Defense is the last line of defense. I think the Korean missiles should be taken out. We aren’t talking about some Iraqi scud missile. They have threatened to use nukes. Don’t give them the chance. It would not be an unprovoked attack since North Korea has already announced to the world they will attack the US, Japan, and South Korea. Other actions they have taken suggest an attack is possible within days.

Probably better it happen now, as opposed to later, knowing NK will just continue to escalate their arms build up and harden their defenses.

I can't help but think Kid Korea is going to try to send a nuke to the U.S. I believe he thinks he has the greatest military in the world and can take on anything.
I don't believe the nuke will make it, but I can see it landing in the pacific ocean. If it does, there's going to be tsunamis everywhere.
I think the kid was raised in a delusional world, and I think he thinks he's indestructible - because people told him he was all his life.

1) NoKo cancels test because they know, unlike US leaders, Japan’s leaders aren’t bluffing.

2) Pravda USA gives all the credit to obama backing down to Krazy Kim and defusing the situation.

He could float one over, and cause cataclysmic problems.

In fact, he could float one over to Mexico, which is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet where there government officials can be bribed with cheap prostitutes and a bit of cash..

It would be easy.

That tractor trailer parked at Walmart in Austin Texas, instead of being smuggled across filled with typical 75 Mexicans and 2,000 pounds so dope, could possibly contain something much more dangerous.

What are the odds that the missile will perform as it’s supposed to?

Very true. Japan committed tremendous atrocities against the Chinese during WWII. The Japanese made Hitler look like a choir boy, but people only remember Hitler. I’m sure that grudge hasn’t cooled one bit.
