“I think sometimes people who suffer from severe depression often think they are a burden to the people around them and that everyone would be better off if they were not in the picture anyone. That person thinks they are doing everyone a favor by taking their life, when in reality the opposite is true - it causes great pain.”
I have had discussions with my elderly mother, who lists the members of my father’s family that have probably had depression.
IOW there is probably a genetic component. Also addictions and alcoholism often go with depression, perhaps attempts to self medicate.
My sister is completely drug-alcohol free, however.
Anybody who spouts of satan claims for those medically diagnosed with depression are extreme kooks, in my view.
Earlier you said:
“My sister has suffered from depression all her adult life. She does not drink, use drugs ever, at all.
When they get the prescription right, she is okay most of the time. But from time to time, the condition goes into a phase which must just be endured, waited out.”
I guess you mean your sister is street drug free, since you mention a prescription. Some of the drugs they use for depression will make you more depressed and even suicidal. If she's been taking them for a long time, she won't be able to just not take them, but she may heed a different regiment of drugs or fewer drugs and more counseling.
