In one breath he states "Palin was very nice to me and kind to my daughter. Although we disagree on everything politically, I still appreciate that."

Then on another he states" After she walked away, I thought about all the things I've said about Palin over the past four years. Wondered if I would've been that nice."

THEN......"Fortunately, almost all my critiques of her (and other public figures) have been about ideas rather than insults.Except maybe Chris Christie"

Now, if all his "critiques" have been strictly about ideas, NOT personal, why did he say "Wondered if I would've been that nice."

I think we have all used these kinds of mental distortions or defense mechanisms to guard ourselves against being overwhelmed by painful or threatening experiences. The feelings of possible guilt and anxiety for someone already afflicted with an inferiority complex are obviously a reality he is going to have to come to terms with gradually.
