Billion Dollar Hotel will Include Smart Elevators

Developers recently unveiled plans for the new Wilshire Grand Hotel and office tower, set to be built in downtown Los Angeles. The new building is set to have a futuristic look inside and out, standing tall at 1,100 feet. The new Wilshire Grand is set to be a “four star plus” hotel and will have many luxurious attractions.

The project is estimated to cost around one billion dollars and is set to open in 2017. One of the towers most interesting features will be its high tech elevator system. The office area will use an elevator system that has no buttons inside the cab. The elevator will know where you are going and know your typical daily schedule. Using an ID card system, the elevator will know exactly where you will be, when you will be there, and where you want to go. If you normally arrive at 8:15 AM, the elevator will be on the first floor waiting for you. What if you want to go another floor? Not an option with this elevator system, because the designers want you to register everything on your card, so the elevators can run more efficiently. The hotel guests can take advantage of the super-fast elevators that will bring them to any floor, even the sky lobby on the 70th floor, in no time at all.

Just a guess.
If the traffic flow of the elevators can be made more efficient, they may have fewer shafts?
Elevators and mechanical services use floor space ($$$). The higher the building the higher the percentage.

One shaft ~10’ x 10’ times 100 floors times $$$ square foot/month adds up to real money. Plus the car and maintenance are not free.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it were built and engineered to withstand a 7.0.

Is it jihad proof?

Please come back when you can afford to make a purchase. Your kids are starving. Carl’s Jr. believes no child should go hungry. You are an unfit mother. Your children will be placed in the custody of Carl’s Jr. Carl’s Jr… “- - - - You, I’m Eating.”

It’s a security measure. It keeps you from going to a floor other than where you’re authorized. If you have an appointment at one of the offices, there should be a way to get you there.

Smart for security.

ONLY a liberal democrat could think up such a hair brained scheme..
No way this can or even could or should work..

SOunds like “HAL” of 2001 reduced to “HERMAN” as in PeeWee Herman..

Sounds like one. You get on, do nothing, and get off where it knows you wanted to go. No effort on your part.

Legitimately “smart” elevators have had the technology — weight sensors — for at least twenty years to beat that.

This stinks of Big Brother tracking to me. How about the simplest out of the ordinary elevator uses? It looks like the elevator is too “smart” to allow these:

“Oops, I forgot something up in the room.”

“I’ll bring my files down to your room tomorrow and we’ll go over the stuff before the meeting.”

Yes. This is easily the biggest reason for “smart” elevators, to be able to have fewer of them.

The World Trace Center, started in 1967, was designed to withstand a direct hit from a fully fueled 707, and it probably would have. Airplanes and fuel loads got bigger.

I suppose it depends on your definition of jihad. With enough explosives, any building, even the Great Pyramids can be toppled.

I'd hate to get on the elevator when the control unit is in a bad mood...

Is that photo from that Star Trek episode with Robert Lansing as an agent from the future and Teri Garr as his assistant?

Can we trade smart elevators for smart people’s representatives in Congress? We’ll thrown in smart Obamafoams for good measure!

Yes and no. The same prop was used in two episodes with minor changes. In that episode, the round lighted screen thing was moved to the opposite side of the console.

This version is the psychotic M5 from "The Ultimate Computer" that ran amok during war games and testing.

A smart elevator will KNOW who farted and tell the rest of the passengers.
