Show me where MacArthur said it was impossible for the Chinese to invade north Korea. Never did. He was a brilliant general and knew full well the possibilities of the enemies. And notwithstanding what some naysayers here say, the landing at Inchon and fast retaking of Seoul was awesome. He was also correct, we should have nuked Chinese forces and saved ALL of Korea. Think of all of the millions of Korean and possibly Chinese lives that would have been saved ultimately. And since when does speaking to the press for legitimate reason in order to possibly sway public opinion constitute an offense to be fired for?

Patton and MacArthur both “fired” for telling the truth. Our generals have learned not to do that any more. I do not think we are better or safer with our new breed of PC officers.

Hey if you've already decided then I wont argue.

All I got are newspaper reports, eyewitness accounts, and historical analysis about why Macarthur didn't expect and chose to not prepare for China's invasion of Korea.  Not only that, how he was so oblivious to the seriousness of the October catastrophe afterward that he proceeded to announce that the boys would be home by Christmas.

Fabian, my dad served in the Phillipines when Eisenhower and Patton were majors under MacArthur. He was a religion in my house, Dude.

But in Korea, he totally blew the Chinese deal, or else he was trying to snooker Truman into fighting communism. First, he split his command between General Smith of the Marines, and General Almond of the Army. Almond was out for glory. He is the one responsible for getting us cut off in NK and damn near defeated by the CHICOM. A brave asshole. But if had not been for the US MArines, the Army in NK would have been wiped out to a man. General Almond ought to be dug up and hanged.

Mac's intel guy, General Willoughby was warned time and time again that there were a million Chinks waiting to pounce in NK and ignored the intel. Completely dropped the ball. He got canned, thank god.

But it wasn't ALL Mac's fault. When we retreated to the coast, we could have done Pusan Perimeter II, and were urged to do so by many strategists. We could have chopped the CHICOMS up beyond belief. Instead we pulled out, Mac got his ass fired (rightly so, IMHO and may God Forgive me).

HOWEVEA .... he was absolutely right about nuking the Chinks ... Truman was surrounded by commsymps and even more commsymp allies like the UK under a truly asshole Labour Government that was the next best thing to communism and mostly we have come to find out, on the East German STASI. payroll. As a matter of fact, until we threatened the CHICOM (who lost over 1 million men) and the NORKS (who lost at least a half-million) with our spiffy new nuclear artillery, they just wouldn't quit.

MacArthur? Great man. Great general. A God to me and my family. Stayed on the job a little too long. Did not understand the Left and how they were working against him. Truman? Just a home-town jerk whose failures led us directly into the failures in Vietnam and led us into a kind of military insignificance from which we have never really recovered. Every rag-headed son-of-a-beach with an AK and an RPG KNOWS we will not fight him until the end. All they have to do is wait.
