A group in Texas is giving away free shotguns to residents and they will soon be coming to Indianapolis to do the same. Justin Dupuy with the Armed Citizen Project says they are offering free shotguns to residents in high-crime areas.
Theres people in their homes that are scared to walk from their car to their house for fear someones going to stick em up and wed like that to change, Dupuy says. Wed like someone to be there and empower them with a weapon.
Those who want a shotgun must submit to a background check and must go through training on how to properly operate the shotgun.
The group was founded by a college student named Kyle Copeland, who once lived in Indianapolis.
Dupuy says they plan on bringing the project to Indianapolis and many other cities across the country. He says the group sees this as a humanitarian mission.
Dupuy adds there is no timetable on when the group will come to Indy but it will be sometime in 2013.

I want a free shotgun!
Damn. I just spent $225 for a Mossberg 500.
This is all over the local tv stations and the local elites are peeing their pants. It’s fun to watch.
How do you like it? I am considering getting a 510 mini .410 for the wife. or should I go 12g?
“Those who want a shotgun must submit to a background check”
Not likely they will give many shotgun’s, they would be hard pressed to a household that has not at least one criminal.
I know... “That’s Racist”, go ahead and have it your way.
Haven’t tried it yet. Just needed a shotgun for my Prepper Arsenal.
I would go for a 12 though, especially since this is mainly FOR the wife.
It’s pretty light, and, as I have been telling the Missus, if the SOUND of a round being chambered doesn’t do the trick, just shooting in the general direction should mitigate any threat quite handily...
Thanks for the reply!

Go 12 gauge. It is much more versatile, the ammunition is abundant and common, and costs less than the .410. Smaller people can get reduced loads for reduced recoil, but if you need to, you can find standard ammo anywhere, which is also much better trading material than .410.
I love the smaller gauges. I was raised on 20 gauge, and I am not giving away my 20 gauges, but 12 guaue is the way to go.

Lots of older, single, women households that do not have felony convictions. They are leaning toward arming women.
Thanks,
My wife is small frame and not a shooter, I don’t want anything that will intimidate her.
Get the lightest 12 gauge loads you can find. I have seen 7/8 ounce loads available. Federal makes some excellent “Flight Control” buck shot loads that are about the best out there, and they are lower recoil than the standard buckshot.
If you have a friend who reloads, have them reload you some ultralight loads. You can get reliable functioning in manually operated shotguns with 1 ounce of shot at about 800 feet per second. I recall that this requires about 10 grains of Red Dot powder, but as this will not operate autoloaders, you have to keep the loads separate.
Ah... Here is the perfect training load if it is stocked in your area. It is very light recoil, very quiet, and is a factory load that is not horribly expensive...
Federal subsonic 1 1/8 ounce of shot at 900 fps.

About the same felt recoil as .410 3/4 ounce load at 1100 fps (because of a little heavier shotgun in the 12 ga.).
Thanks, that’s great info!
I couldn’t decide.
So I got one of each, 12, 20 & 410.
