White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Wednesday that the prominent Drudge Report website "hurts" the White House's message because of its dominating effect on the news cycle.
Pfeiffer said that he was "ambivalent" to what Matt Drudge links to on his website, but he lamented that the site led to a "Pavlovian response" from reporters.
"Anyone saying anything can get caught up in the spin cycle in a way that is very damaging," Pfeiffer said at a Politico Playbook breakfast with Mike Allen. "It hurts what we’re trying to do, but then it is very damaging to that individual person."
Pfeiffer said that he'll often be approached by reporters who say they have a question strictly because "it's on Drudge."
"What do you say to that?" Allen asked him.
"I sort of ask them to repeat themselves — say that to themselves out loud again and think about it," Pfeiffer said. "And everyone's always a little embarrassed about it and says, 'My boss — my assignment editor's on me about this.'"

He's complaining about visibility and perspective.
Drudge takes articles hidden on page 17 of the NY Times and makes them visible.
Drudge also lists groups of articles together (including "flashback" articles) in a way that allows the reader to gain perspective. He also groups so called "factual articles" with opinion pieces in a way that allows the reader to connect the dots.
Just like talk radio, Drudge helps the public gain the perspective that the media works so hard to hide.
One has to wonder if when a reporter refers to a question raised from the NYT, does an Administration official ask him/her to repeat what s/he just said to understand how ridiculous the question is?

Well, isn't the idea of a "free press" intended to spread information so that "the People" are so informed that they can make their own decisions and, perhaps, oppose what their government "is trying to do," if it interferes with their liberty?

That technology has made the "newspaper" almost instantaneous in its delivery of information is, by its very nature, frustrating to an Administration which must collude with Senate Presidents and House Speakers to pass legislation in the middle of night which, by their very own admission, must be "passed so that we can find out what's in it."
At least Pfeiffer is honest about their frustration.
