North Korea 'moves missiles' closer to target

Update: 1:49PM NORTH Korea has reportedly been seen moving a long-range missile in to position for launch.

South Korean Yonhap news agency reports that North Korea's new KN08 Musudan missile has been spotted in the process of being transported towards the Sea of Japan.

The KN08 Musudan is still under-development and it is unclear if it has the range to reach the United States mainland. Previous assessments have given it a range of 4000km - potentially enough range to reach Guam.

Are they moving troops and supplies towards the border with South Korea?

Granted there leadership may be "blowing smoke." However, they may be willing to gamble, that while they are technologically inferior, one massive all out strike would give them victory. By all out strike I mean nuclear, aircraft, ground troops and missiles. Remember we will not attack first-a big mistake as that gives ones enemy an advantage. Secondly, we have an anti-American individual in the White House. Thirdly, the press will move into its virulent anti-American mode including but not limited to defeatism, showing images of Che Guerva, paraded American captives, rent-a-mobs hitting the streets, movies showing American atrocities. etc. etc. China is massing troops on the border and will support North Korea.

I give North Korea a 60% chance of victory if they do a massive first strike like that stated above.

A tempest in a teapot. Baghdad Bob spoke in similar terms. The reality is quite different from the rhetoric. You watch too many movies.

Kim ain’t Bagdhad Bob. The truth is there are and have been many men who would just as soon see the world burn. A good example is those who flew the planes into the towers.

The problem is you are trying to use logic to explain the actions of a mad man.

This is all about extortion and getting the West to negotiate and provide more aid. Remember Albright's visit to the DPRK? Lots of bluster. We caved and gave food aid among other things.

The only way North Korea does anything stupid is if there is some real domestic threat to the leadership. The probability that the DPRK will launch a major attack is virtually nil.

I believe that you nailed it! That's the only way any of this makes sense. This has all the earmarks of a Hugo Chavez-style ploy to get other rogue nations aligned with the NORKs so they can score more food or possibly engage in some means of generating revenue.

It is possible that Kim Jun-ior may actually give a crap and is trying to obtain something for his subjects!

I said POSSIBLE!

"You watch too many movies."

By the way you are most liekly right, but I suggest you don't read enought history. War's are generally started by mad men. Kim seems to fit that discription prefectly.

I think you are correct. Lil' Kim is seeking another taste of honey. His dad tasted the wine thanks to clintoon. So lil' kim says I can do this too. All ruses. All by design. So how long till we cave?

This is a country of 24.5 million with a GDP of $40 billion (PPP) compared to South Korea, a nation of 50 million with a GDP of $1.6 trillion.

Many? BS. And Kim is not suicidal anymore than any other tin horn dictator who wants to stay in power. I include the mullahs of Tehran in that equation.

Our joint exercise Foal Eagle ends about 30 April, so look for more and more extreme antics by NK until then.

No ammunition has been released to NK ground units.

Somethings cooking on the China-NK border, a Chinese fighter penetrated NK airspace and overflew most of the border on 21 March. However, most of the Chinese ground units that moved to the border, have pulled back to their garrisons.

China delivered no crude to NK in February or March, for the first time in 39 months, looks like a pressure play.

If NK starts up their mothballed reactors, it would take many years to produce weapons plutonium, no threat there. NK only has enough plutonium for about 6 weapons and their blast yields todate have been very weak.

One thing of note, all the NK war posturing to date has been made by civil, government officials, not the NK military officials.

When NK has done that in the past, it has allowed NK deniability and an easy way to walk backwards as they can claim that the government was just preparing the people for martial law.

“Probably wrong but still thinking this is a ruse.”

My son is teaching in Seoul. I’m more than a bit edgy, but he says he’ll start to worry when the locals do.

OK, explain.

It is a long range missile, right.

Then how is moving it a ‘short’ distance in NKorea going to help out?

Going to stretch out that last few km of range???
