Scarborough Calls Quentin Tarantino 'A Pornographer of Violence'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 04/04/2013 6:25:12 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Campbell Brown appeared on today's Morning Joe to promote her campaign against violence in entertainment media. But while she made some solid suggestions, it was Joe Scarborough who took matters a quantum leap further, calling Quentin Tarantino "a pornographer of violence."

In line with her op-ed in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, Brown criticized President Obama, post Newtown, for focusing almost exclusively on gun control while largely ignoring the issue of violence in media. She encouraged him to pull a Sister Souljah/Nixon-to-China and use his extraordinary ties with Hollywood to bring pressure on media makers to deal with the extreme violence they purvey. But it was Scarborough who used the strongest language, repeatedly calling Tarantino a pornographer, accusing him of coarsening America's culture, and asking when America is going to start calling out people like him.

Does Tarantino have any redeeming social value, or is Scarborough right that he’s simply a pornographer of violence? Ping to Today show list.

So now they’ve moved on from attacking the Second Amendment, to now attacking the First Amendment.

I would even be happier if the media would focus on some of the personal histories of the perps who commit gun violence and their background of lenient sentences, probation, etc. Let's start with Chicago.

Putting these careerist criminals away would do more to lower our violent crime rate than any other measure. Period.

I know I would rather watch 10 QT flicks than 10 minutes of ‘morning joe.’

"So now they’ve moved on from attacking the Second Amendment, to now attacking the First Amendment."

Wait a sec. You can condemn someone for abusing a right without condemning the fundamental right itself. I completely condemn the Newton shooter but I still suppport second amendment rights. And, like Scarborough, I condemn Tarrantino for glorifying gun violence for a buck. I didn't hear Joe saying we need to censor Quinton, but just trying to instill a bit of shame for his hypocritical behavior.

Hate to admit it, but Scarborough is right on this one, proving the adage that even a broken clock is right twice a day; but, ha, Scarborough’s still got to catch up.

The government should require a background check & mental evaluation to view a Quentin Tarantino movie?

You can criticize people...that’s not bashing the first amendment. That’s upholding it.

No, he doesn’t! She wasn’t in Reservoir Dogs.

Just as long as no one mentions the meds that all these shooters are on. That couldn’t POSSIBLY be a factor. Only crazy people mention that ...

If Joe had any guts, he’d go after the hip hop culture, but no, he has to attack the white guy.

Yes, he’s a pornographer of violence. That’s not why I dislike him though. I dislike him because he’s a gibbering freak, a really weird guy. He’s not right in the head.

Was Sam Peckinpah also a “pornographer of violence”.

I hate when people apply the word “porn” to things that are not porn.

The rate of violent crimes has been declining for the entirety of Tarantino's film career, in fact; the very sharp and steady decline in the murder and violent crime rate actually started pretty precisely at the time Tarantino's first full-length film, Reservoir Dogs, came out in 1992.

So shouldn't Scarborough be encouraging him to make more movies and even more violent ones?

It’s a start. Be thankful he’s willing to stray from the liberal plantation at all. He does it occasionally but, granted, the times are few and far between. It may just be because the producers think some occasional conflict with Mika makes for good TV.

He’s still blaming crime on an inanimate object instead of the people who commit the crimes.

I dislike Tarantino because he is a filmic thief who has never had an original idea in his head. I love the look on trendy film lovers faces when I point out that ‘Dogs’ is just a complete ripoff of two of the greatest (1950’s) crime films.
