The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has responded to a letter dated November 13, 2012 from Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) regarding the agencys ammunition purchases.
Sen. Coburn published the response on the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs website yesterday, April 1, 2013.

Never forget this.
I wonder just how much has been delivered? The purchase order was for billyuns and billyuns of rounds, but just how many are in the warehouses now?
Which isn't a very sound strategy since DHS has been reducing its ammo purchases for each of the last three years.
The precise DHS inventory, ammo deliveries for the last three years, and the planned spending for ammo can all be found here:
DHS had about 250 million rounds last November.
They bought about 100 million rounds in 2012, for $36 million dollars. They plan to spend $37 million in 2013, which will buy them about the same amount of ammo this year.
If you run a factory; and you get an order for 1 Gazillion rounds; what would you do?
Keep making ammo that “might sell” or do you fulfill the order you have on the books?
It’s called Capitalism, you make the business decisions today that keep you in business tomorrow. I will buy ammo tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that....
They never said, implied or through action gave any clue that they will not be manufacturing ammo in the future.
yeah but eventually fedgov would run out of ammo. maybe forced to be inferior, dangerous ammo that might like, destroy their guns.
Squib rounds in the enemy’s barrel. Devious.
>>Its called Capitalism, you make the business decisions today that keep you in business tomorrow.
Exactly. I think some communist dictator said, “The capitalists will sell me the rope I use to hang them.”
When the ammo manufacturers choose to help the government take guns away from the people, who will buy their ammo when the people are disarmed and pacified to the point where that government is killing us with gas chambers and health care denials?
I am thinking of having a yard sale. The one item I think will sell well is .22LR Ammo. I think I will add a smaller sign to the large one saying .22LR anno. $2.50 box of 50 Remington High speed.
Any thoughts? should I maybe charge more?
Also
Winchester .22 Magnum $10.00 box of 50?
no just piss poor foreign ammo that has a tendency to blow up.
i mean they’re trying to save money, right? they’ll buy the cheapest foreign crap and BOOM you’re picking gun parts out of your face.
I”m sorry - I must be missing something.
Is the US Gov’t disarming and executing citizens? Are you aware of any plans to do so? Does the US have Gas Chambers under construction?
Lighten up, Francis
It’s simply a case of Supply and Demand. The anti-Gun idiots have created an artificial run on guns and ammo. There is a finite Supply. We are involved in 2 wars in different countries and facing a nuclear threat in a 3rd.
The manufacturers are running pretty much full capacity, and like any other business - you fill the big orders first.
DHS is LYING!!
If they were trying to “save money” they would NOT be buying ONLY JHP rounds!!!
THANK you very much!
They’re going to keep buying and stockpiling ammo using borrowed dollars for as long as it takes. They know they can’t get all the guns, but they can make ammo so scarce that people stop accumulating guns.
Strategic Ammo Reserve!
In about 3 years, President Cruz/Paul/Palin/Rubio can sell it all off to the private sector at bargain prices....unless we have Civil War 11 before then.
AMMO CONTROL
Which manufacturers, exactly? Is there a list of the winning bidders for each of the discussed contracts?
