In response President Obama ordered a ballistic missile defence system be moved to the nearest U.S. military base to the rogue state

North Korea dramatically escalated tensions with America tonight by warning it had approved nuclear strike plans.

"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the North Korean military said, warning that war could break out "today or tomorrow".

In response, President Obama ordered a ballistic missile defence system be moved to the nearest U.S. military base to the rogue state.

The U.S. defence system will move to Guam, the nearest American military base to North Korea, 2,000 miles south east of Pyongyang in the Pacific Ocean.

U.S. defence secretary, Chuck Hagel, said: “Some of the actions they have taken the last few weeks present a real and clear danger and threat to the interests of our allies starting with South Korea and Japan.

“Also there have been threats the North Koreans have leveled at our base in Guam and Hawaii.”

Saber rattling for US handouts. Their crops and food supplies are really, really bad. China has stopped helping them out on critical items. They’ve had real bad harvests the last few years.

Im sure we did something wrong. Obama will explain to us how it’s our fault and offer them a few billion soon. (sequestration won’t affect that)

I’m thinking that Dennis Rodman carried a message from our leader when he visited NK. The blustering and threats sure picked up since then.

Well then may I suggest somebody send Kim a copy of Dale Carnegie's "How To Win Friends and Influence People", because this ain't working.

Do you think Santorum would have bombed the h*ll out of North Korea by now? Or at least made some sort of meaningful impact?

It's not a simple problem. The Norks have hundreds of thousands of artillery tubes - some loaded with chemical weapons - aimed and ready to fire at Seoul, which is well within their range. We attack the North and we watch tens or hundreds of thousands of South Korean civilians die gruesome deaths within minutes.

I think Kim came away with the impression that all Americans are blithering idiots, like Dennis, and they should be easy to defeat.

well it has worked in the past. That’s why they keep doing it. I doubt Obama will stop the cycle of enabling them.

"if they would only promise to hit DC and Maybe NYC,, i say we just ride it out"

Yeah, I'd say L.A. too, but the fallout would drift across decent areas.
NYC & D.C. would just cause ash in the Atlantic.

I doubt our fearless leader would counterattack a communist country.

THADD is a regional, high altitude interceptor system. It has a higher ceiling and wider coverage area than Patriot. To my knowledge, we have never used it in an active theatre since deployed because there was no threat present to use it against. It is an endoatmospheric system that cannot counter ICBM’s or newer hypersonic missiles. I guess they think Taepodongs would be coming at Guam and they would try to catch them way out and use Patriot as the last line of a layered defense. I don’t think the THAAD arc would extend from Guam to Japan.

I think we have some stuff on Aegis platforms that can catch ICBM’s in boost phase but you have to get on them quick. If they actually have something that can hold together and get to the US mainland and have a warhead that would actually work as a strategic weapon mounted on that vehicle (a big if), the GBI BMD tubes in Alaska are our only real defense IMHO.

They could potentially detonate a nuke at altitude which would result in an EMP attack. Read “One Second After” by William Forstchen for the gory details that such an attack might cause. It is definitely something everybody ought to consider and nothing is lost by reading an engaging book.

A good point.

I remember someone saying years ago that the biggest mistake Josef Stalin ever made was in assuming that in dealing with Adolf Hitler, he was dealing a rational human being.

We could debate whether Stalin was psychopathic - in my view, he was - but I would not consider Stalin “irrational”.

It’s a possibility that Kim Jong Un could be the outlier; a genuinely irrational human being who, unfortunately, is in a leadership position in a state that possess nuclear weapons.

I'm some what distressed as to the level, of dismissiveness (sp?)that some here have as to the capibilities of the Norks.

Pakistan has a missile capable nuc warhead. What make you think that that technology hasn't been passed on to the Norks via Iran?

They ,The Norks, currently have a orbiting “Package” in a polar orbit.. how do you know that it's not a Nuclear Device to be used as a EMP device. ?

If you can put a “Device” into a polar orbit, you can theoretical target any place on the globe.
Never , never , never underestimate a adversary, to do so is at your own risk
