THE HAGUE (JTA) The City of Amsterdam fined hundreds of Jewish Holocaust survivors for failing to pay taxes while they were in hiding or in concentration camps.
The affair was exposed in an article in Het Parool, a local daily, on March 30. Many of the houses in question were confiscated and used by members of the NSB Dutch Nazi party while the Jewish owners were in hiding or in camps.
The city went after survivors as late as 1947, the report said. Other Dutch municipalities waived such debts, Het Parool reported. The following year the city agreed to reimburse half of what it charged to some Jews who were taxed in absentia. The citys archives contain 342 requests for reimbursement, Het Parool reported.
The documents about this taxation were discovered by Charlotte van den Berg, a 23-year-old university student. She said she found them bundled with an elastic band in the archive section of one of the citys departments while conducting research on Jewish home owners.

Wow. Pretty despicable.
I am part Dutch. I cannot express how ashamed and angry I am right now. I denounce these Dutch Nazi bastards.
Worse than Dutch Nazis - statist bureaucrats. Just as happy to zealously serve and enrich the state under Nazi control, communist control, Allied control or Martian control.
Knock, knock
Who's there?
Aleta
Aleta who?
Aleta from the tax man!
I think we have reached the saturation point with all of this. It’s 2013, not 1943.
As one of Polish descent this brings up a pet peeve of mine.
It seems that only Poles are singled out for their treatment of Jews under Nazi occupation.
And this despite the fact that Poland was the only occupied area where helping a Jew in any way, form or manner, was punishable by death. And despite this, more Poles are recognized as Righteous Gentiles at Yad Vashem than any other nationality.
Yes, some Polish treatment of Jews was shameful...but...anti-semitism was the National Pastime all across Europe, Holland was no exception. After all, it was a Dutchman who betrayed Anne Frank and her family.
And yet you never hear anyone say things like “The Dutch drink anti-semitism with their mothers’ milk”, like you hear time and time again about the Poles.
Dutch Collaborators
Another Fun Fact: Which nation had a higher than normal Collaborators with the Nazi's?
The Freaking Dutch!!!
What a contemptible people!
Ever hear of Corrie ten Boom?
Not as ashamed as I am, all Norwegian and still in Eurabia.
This stuff is going to come to an international showdown.
I guess their point must be “those shameless Jews...they’ll do anything to avoid rightful taxes.”
My Jewish Family comes from Germany, but they had immigrated there a couple of hundred years ago from The Polish Commonwealth.
(That is also the reason why many Jews have Polish Names)
One of the greatest tragedies of European history was the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
That is good for her, glad to see SOMEONE stood up.
Here Poles are characterized as hard-working, skilled, honest. The women are most definitely beautiful and charming.
The only two things our last Labour government did that weren't despicable acts of infamy were a) joining in on Iraq and b) letting 200K Poles into the country. Everything else they screwed up big time.
From Wikipedia:
On 25 February 1941, the Communist Party of the Netherlands called for a general strike, the February strike, in response to the first Nazi raid on Amsterdam’s Jewish population. The old Jewish quarter in Amsterdam had been cordoned off into a ghettos and as retaliation for a number of violent incidents that followed 425 Jewish men were taken hostage by the Germans and eventually deported to extermination camps, just 2 surviving. Many citizens of Amsterdam, regardless of their political affiliation, joined in a mass protest against the deportation of Jewish Dutch citizens. The next day, factories in Zaandam, Haarlem, IJmuiden, Weesp, Bussum, Hilversum and Utrecht joined in. The strike was largely put down within a day with German troops firing on unarmed crowds, killing 9 people and wounding 24, as well as taking many prisoners. It was significant because opposition to the German occupation intensified as a result. The only other general strike in Nazi-occupied Europe was the general strike in occupied Luxembourg in 1942. The Dutch struck four more times against the Germans: the students’ strike in November 1940, the doctors’ strike in 1942, the AprilMay strike in 1943 and the railway strike in 1944. No other country showed such overt refusal to cooperate with the occupiers.
I agree!
For 300 Years Poland-Lithuania was the most powerful country on Earth. (I think because they supported us Jews and thus were blessed by HaShem, Genesis 12:3)
While Germany Torn itself apart, England was racked with Civil Wars and France, Spain, and Italy were at war with each other all the time.
You had strong Poland to the east!
