It is a given among liberal and progressive Jews that gun ownership among the general population is a bad thing. The ideal is near-universal disarmament with only a handful of individual exceptions and, of course, the police.
The majority of Americans have the opposite view. They believe that gun ownership is a fundamental American right, and that the more law-abiding Americans who own guns, the safer the society. This view is so widely held — even among many Democrats — that few Democratic politicians take anti-gun positions.
Like the great majority of American Jews I grew up in a home with no guns, no hunting, no target shooting or any other use of guns. Moreover, no one I knew had a gun or even knew how to use one. Diaspora Jewish culture is almost pacifist. And the general Jewish view is that non-Jews play with guns, not us Jews. A home with guns is as foreign to a Jewish liberal as gefilte fish is to a Mississippi Baptist.
Over the course of my lifetime I have come to side with the majority of Americans. I would hope that Jews are open to rethinking what has become, like most liberal beliefs, an essentially religious position.
I support gun ownership for two reasons — one American and the other Jewish.
First, I have come to admire the American value of the armed citizen. It is part of the great American value of independence and self-reliance. If I am armed, I can better protect myself, my loved ones and my neighbors.

I also suspect that in conservative Jewish homes, Guns in the hands of only the political parties are viewed as enabling the Holocaust. Just like in gentile conservative homes. Some people read history books...
A couple of hand guns did rather well in the Warsaw Ghetto's. Quite a few Nazi's did not live for another day of Jew hunting. And because of the delays in their master plan, some Jews escaped alive.

It’s unfortunate that the Jews of pre-WWII Europe didn’t have an American-style “gun culture,” complete with gun clubs and advocacy groups, gun shows, target ranges, periodicals geared to shooters and gun collectors, and so forth.

If American Christians and Jews want to be shot and fall into the graves they just dug, gun-control is a good way to insure that future. There are 8 million witnesses — may they rest in peace.
American liberals think like Nazis, but they are, individually and in groups, psychologically incapable of carrying out the murderous goals of the Nazis. They are weak, effiminate, campy sheep who will run at the first sign of a fight.
This is why, IMO, they are sucking up to the Muslim murderers. They need a surrogate army to carry out the attempted genocide of conservatives and patriots that they themselves don’t have the guts to do themselves.
And they completely lack the intellect to see the danger of giving murderous Muslims the power of life and death over them. Their last emotion as they are led to the Islam chopping block for beheading will be one of utter shock that they were wrong.
I disagree. Give them the safety of numbers, the identity protection of a uniform, and the power of law and they would be just as murderous as any liberal group in history.
The would do it for the children, they would do it for the unempowered, they would do it for the fun of watching thier enemies suffer. But like all tyrants, the will only do it if they don’t feel their personal safety in endangered, thus the Second Amendment.
They had guns, but not the will to use them. Do we have the will?
Yep. Americans in uniform are capable. Not our military necessarily, but those with new uniforms like those worn by DHS might fit the bill.

Incredibly, despite his virulently anti Second Amendment position, I saw him interviewed on the History Channel as he recounted his days under Nazi occupation, and declared "The Nazis had all the guns. We had nothing. We could do nothing." Some people never learn.

You’re confusing a mob with a disciplined military unit.
American liberals are not even close to the German liberals of the 1930s in any manner or form. Those Germans had a martial philosophy and upbringing since youth. American liberals have a background in hating guns, wearing mascara and wimpering servitude to feminists.
America’s warrior class is found in the military and gun culture. You won’t find it in a womyn’s study professor. Giving a sniveling, crawling maggot a uniform doesn’t make him a warrior.

Oh he learned alright. He moved into a position of Government so he could be the Nazi this time and control other people guns. You don't see him advocating gun control for Government do you.

It doesn’t take a martial bearing, it takes hate and a lack of respect for human life. They have that in spades.
