Elsie Thompson died on March 21
The oldest person in the United States has died at age 113, just weeks before her 114th birthday.
A spokeswoman from Elsie Thompson's church in Clearwater, Fla., said she died March 21.
The Gerontology Research Group, which verifies age information for Guinness World Records, listed Thompson as the oldest living U.S. citizen after January's death of 114-year-old Mamie Rearden of South Carolina.
Swimming? At her age?
I’m not a fan of conspiracies, but once again, the oldest person in the U.S. mysteriously dies only a few months after being awarded the title. There has to be more to this.
So now, we are left without the oldest person in the United States. Bummer!
I’m sure if Obamacare stays in force, the number of centenarians in the US will drop.
I was at a contender's birthday today. We'll know in about 30 years.
They are rounding up several 112-year-olds as prime suspects.
Why not? It's a very gentle form of aerobic exercise compared to running. I had to give up running at 36 due to a herniated disc, but I took up swimming to stay in shape.
So, is Helen Thomas considered the oldest living organism emeritus?
May Elsie Thompson RIP.
I do not want to live to be 113, but I may reconsider at 112.
And....my aunt turns 103 this month. She still lives on her own & uses the internet. Her physical & mental health are still excellent.
Hey, well, you say that now, but how will she be in 10 years ?
I know:) she out eats me when I take her out for a meal & never offers to pay the bill...smart lady she is.
I just realized both of my grandmothers would’ve turned 104 this year.
The next in line will take over.
Most dangerous profession in the US, Oldest Person in the US.
You know what is a huge conspiracy is that no one talks about?
When you look at obituaries, people always die in alphabetical order.
Coincidence? I think not.
They already know who and where the next oldest person is, there is a website where you can go and see the list. My great aunt was the oldest person at almost 116 when she died in about 1996.
I’d never want to be the oldest person alive
The pressure!
There is always some one right behind you, trying to take the title away. You know what I mean?
