Misuse of ADHD drugs is "growing at an alarming rate," said CDC director Thomas Frieden, PhD.
Experts say some parents may push for the diagnosis because they see ADHD as a problem that can be fixed with medication.

When we were assigned in Panama in the late ‘80s, the DoDDS school system in Panama employed a “prescriptionist”, who prescribed Ritalin for virtually every kid (read “boy”) who ever acted up or talked in class. My wife was a substitute teacher - she couldn’t believe how many boys in each class had to have their pills every day.

Is it not considered a “disability” and do not the parents get extra federal checks ? And we know how that works.

My brother, who is in “academia”, writer, college teacher, computer guru for the college, and his wife, speech pathologist and social worker, have their son on Adderall. If he's ADD then I'm a Chinese Astronaut. Daughter 13 y.o. is in therapy and the therapist is concerned she may be schizophrenic. Why? She told the therapist that she and a friend of hers saw a ghost one night.
They have a huge amount of education and not one lick of common sense.

This is a tough one. My son was one of those boys that the school probably wanted to medicate. We did not. However, instead of saying no, no, no, my wife home schooled him and our kids and whipped him into shape academically. When we moved we put him back in school and he was a star.
My wife is now a school teacher and feels for parents not wanting to medicate, but also sees that parents do not want to do what is necessary to prevent medication- i.e., work your ass off with your kid. They just want the school to fix.
So my wife is in a peculiar position seeing the positives of medication when she was adamantly opposed to it for our son!
