That’s odd.

30.06 is rare as hens teeth these last 7 years

really? wow- I should piuck some up

in case I get a 30-06

Should I?

what do you think of the MArlin 30-30? (lever action)

I juse started collecting this year and have I think a good mix of close and far shooting irons with shot and bullets

notihing for long distance- If i hit something at 600yeards that would be fun.

I can only imagine a .50 cal at 1000 years would be more funner.

If you can get 30.06 cheap, grab it.

I like .308 but largely for economy.

30/30 is great.

Its is a great round for anything in 100 yards

Yeah I have used 30 weight oil on Ma Duce during all the way in and two and a half out beau coup pucker factor belt runs ..... Will try the trans fluid ....

If the frog lube is good on combat Tupperware that alone is a selling point.

Anyone running a piston upper on their AR ? Getting ready to make a purchase of such for my existing lowers.

Leaning towards these folks for a SBR papered build.

http://www.adamsarms.net/

Anyone know of their reputation etc pro / con ?

Thanks folks !

30-06 has been around for 100 years but is no longer a military caliber. Still a lot of 30-06 huntin’ rifles out there though. At Academy Sports, many of the larger hunting calibers seem to be in stock.

You should be able to pick up a new Howa or Weatherby 30-06 for $400 - $600. Remington 783 is also an option. (And a used one a lot cheaper.)

I think I would avoid a conversion kit.

I believe Adams was one of the first, if not the first to make a piston AR. Heard good things about LMT & POF pistons too. No personal experience other than my AR180, but that's a totally different animal.

Reading the link now ..... I am issued a Hk 416 Piston Gun and it runs flawless . Wonder what the issues are (reading) ...not looking for a conversion kit. I want a built upper. (Reading) .....:o)

Back in a few ...

You probably have some connections. Maybe you could score an Hk upper?

You could do what I’ve done to my Maadi AK, square the back sight notch out and down, then set the sight for200 yards, to accomodate the deeper cutout for close in shooting. I can now see the front sight through the back sight, under the rail mount dust cover. My son was shocked at what I did, until he shot it!

. . May look at a entire Hk 416 semi auto variant when the insanity dies down but right now I just want to make a briefcase gun with a SBR tax stamp papered barrel to carry in a 1495 briefcase.

Sort of like the one on this page ...

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_19/591961_SBR_hard_case___.html&page=1&anc=bottom#bottom

Really like the carry configuration etc .... Just not a fan of SBR’s with pig tail gas tubes and or adjustable gas tubes etc .... Used those in the past and they have to be cared for more than usual etc

Just another tool in the toolbox per se....:o)

Completed a piston kit project last year. I built three ARs and put the Adams Arms on a 16 inch carbine; the CMMG on a Pistol/11.5 inch ; the Osprey Defense 416 on a 14.5 inch carbine w/permanent la vang flash hider. Each required some 'tuning' to function flawlessly, but they all worked. Unfortunately, the CMMG was the most finnicky and hardest to use my CMMG stainless conversion to 22lr with.

The tuning is to get the dwell time correct for each paricular gun. Far and away the Osprey is the best of the three, and their bolt carrier is rated for full auto if you want to. I tuned my builds by removing an 1/8inch from the last coil of the buffer spring at a time until the rifle/pistol cycled every time fired with any weight bullets.

I'm selling the pitol with CMMG kit at a local gunshow next weekend, if I can find a buyer. You will find you can run the Osprey for a few thousand rounds before needing a cleaning. I still haven't run that much through all three ... can't find ammo to replace what I would use up!

Thanks for the info .... Grateful. Same on ammo here as well.... Stopped the 3 gun shoots, just staying frosty with minimum range time for CHL and Primary EBR.

Will task yer knowledge base and experience when I get the upper. Paperwork is being accomplished by a local class III dealer for me now. my decision is brand / manufacturer. That’s my research for now.

Again grateful !

Stay Safe !

Many ways ....:o)

Thanks.... Is the author a freeper ?

I have used racquet ball cases for MP5k, old 7.5 inch Colt AR’s, golf bags for long guns, guitar cases and some day packs with rifles upper and lowers separated .

May finally buy a AR pistol in the future. What is reliability issues with the pistol aka buffer tube and the ones that have recoil system above the receiver ?
