On Easter Sunday, Google is honoring the birthday of the late labor organizer Cesar Chavez by placing a Chavez portrait within the middle o of the Google logo that appears on the homepage of the popular search engine.
While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavezs birthday, instead of Easter Sunday.
Chavez co-founded the organization now known as the United Farm Workers union (UFW). He became an iconic figure in the labor movement, with his stature only increasing since his death in 1993.
President Barack Obama released a statement in 2011 proclaiming March 31 Cesar Chavez Day, declaring, I call upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate service, community, and educational programs to honor Cesar Chavezs enduring legacy.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt was an informal adviser to both of President Obamas presidential campaigns, a member of the Obama White House transition team in 2009 and a onetime prospect for an Obama Cabinet post during the presidents second term.
As The Daily Caller has reported, Schmidt is also a steadfast climate-change activist, and has advocated for the complete termination of the oil, natural gas, and coal industries, and predicted that Washington, D.C. will soon be completely underwater due to climate change.
Saw that and switched to Bing.
Don’t hold back! Tell us how you really feel! :)
I switched over to Bing about a year ago. This morning, their home page carries a nice assortment of Psanky Easter eggs. Very nice.
Um, you are writing about Hugo there. Google is doing Cesar the UFW radical.
Chavez fought against illegal immigration.
Do not expect the heathen Google to honor God.
That is actually what made up my mind today.
I’ve been on Google forever.
Just... Well just because it was always on my menu. I read the google-bashing posts, and frankly agreed with them 100%, but then when I needed a search engine I once again...
Went to Google.
Well today did it for me. I made some extra effort to find the Bing homepage.
www.bing.com
Then I replaced by Google shortcut, with a Bing shortcut.
Now I am 100% on Bing.
Not saying something won’t eventually change that, but I am swiched over now.
Ta-ta Google.
FUG!.. And they’re so subtle about it. /s
You and I have had an identical experience today.
They honor a communist over Christ?
F**k Google.
Welcome.
From the comments, google is losing a lot of people over this.
Quit using Google long ago, due to sinister tracking tactics.
I let everything else they did go.
This was one step over the line.
March 31 is Ceasar Chavez day, a holiday that some union members get a day off.
Google decides to “Render unto Cesar”...
There appears to be no way to contact Google with a complaint. Does anyone know how?
Dont support Google.
Use Bing and Apple phones
