The Miami Beach Police Department declared the city's first ever gun buyback held at the convention center Saturday a success with more than two dozens firearms turned in to authorities.
"As you can see on the table we have four shotguns and a number of semi-automatic pistols, as well as revolvers," Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez said. "Those are the type of weapons that we are encountering on the streets here."
"Anything we can do to take a weapon off the street is one less potential disaster," Commissioner Jerry Libbin said.

These events are pure political theater. No mention of private buyers at this event, which is unusual, as it it becoming common for private buyers to compete with police where private sales are not forbidden. Only a handful of states forbid private sales.
Jackoffs
"more than two dozens"?
Gollee, Gomer, let's sit back and watch the crime rate go down.
Why, that's over half the guns in Miami, right? maybe two-thirds?
24 guns out of miami? Sounds like a huge failure to me
If you have a non-functional, and worthless gun for repair...then it’s a great deal and I support it. I do agree, it’s plain stupid to take a functional gun or a weapon of value over to such an event. But if they want to be that stupid over the pony-show, feel free.
No more crime in Miami. Whew! Glad they fixed that!/s
Call me cynical, but how is selling firearms to the police (at $300 a pop) treated as "proof" that violence is going down?
Can somebody 'splain that to me?
Sounds like one uninformed widow to me.
In Liberty City you can swing a dead cat and find more than 24 guns...
Thank goodness they didn’t lie about the amount turned in according to the headline. Twenty five is “More that two dozen.” Honesty in journalism. How nice.
WOW that means....................nothing, natha, zilch, zero, naught!
I know several people who own far more than 2 dozen guns.........These buybacks are so stupid and silly.
Of course, most things a lot of politicians do are stupid and silly.
>>These events are pure political theater. <<
From all I have heard from those who KNOW firearms (which excludes most of the MSM), these gun buybacks are a chance for gun owners to get a few bucks for dumping their old, unworking weapons. The number of working firearms taken off the street is negligible.
Is it me? Or is that an inane comment by a Police Chief who knows damn well those are same weapons that every law-abiding gun owner has at home, and that there is NO proof those weapons were on the "street"?
"Anything we can do to take a weapon off the street is one less potential disaster," Commissioner Jerry Libbin said."
Uh, a-okay, Commissioner. I'm sure those common defense guns were turned in by your criminals. Thanks for playing and here's your card (as in the Blue Collar comedians who throw out a card for every stupid thing a person does - see the show).
Gun "turn-in/buy-backs" are the stupidest idea ever. Yup, I can just see a Crip or Blood or MS-13 or Mongol or Hell's Angel walking to the table and thinking, "Damn, I shouldn't have this gun - here ya go. Sorry I had this, I repent". The stupidity is mind-boggling.
Liberty City = Mogadishu, or worse.
spit
100 times that in Hialeah alone. Jeez. Pat yourselves on the back fellas. You did jack for crime today.
That's what happens when someone with insufficient brainpower tries to make logical connections. It almost makes sense if one was raised on Ebonics: How many guns? Dozens of guns. Ooh, how many dozens of guns? Two dozens of guns... Maybe the reporter had it right and the editor was a "diversity" placement.
LOL..I wouldn't go that far...until the EBT cards read "ERROR"
How many government workers were paid to participate in this eyewash event? Overtime? How many crimes were committed while this performance was staged?
