My science is based on a basic understanding of nuclear physics. In a nuclear reactor the material is not weapon's grade and is designed to decay at a rate high enough to cause enough heat to turn a generator, but not so hot that it melts the containment or cannot be stopped. When that happens the material will melt the containment vessel and then go subcritical again.
In a nuclear detonation all the energy is released in a fraction of a second and most of the harsher radiation is gone after 1-2 years.

Thanks for your input. So, Puny Humans, who called me a “Butthead”, would be in serious radiation immediately and radiation will be his buddy for one to two years. That sounds good, so when is newbie Punny Humans leaving for this healthy climate he will be in if a nuclear bomb blows up?
