Roland Martin on Thursday blamed racism for his inability to get his own show at CNN.
"You have largely white male executives who are not necessarily enamored with the idea of having strong, confident minorities, who say, You know, I can do this,'" he told HuffPostLive.
"I am simply saying give folks a shot, he added. We deliver, but we never get the big piece, the larger salary, to be able to get from here to there.
Martin, whom it was reported last week has been axed by CNN, claimed in his interview with Marc Lamont Hill that he went to the network years ago thinking he would eventually get his own show.
In his view, whenever he substitute-hosted a program, the ratings would hold thereby demonstrating his ability to command such an important position long-term
This led Hill to ask, Did you have a sense that CNN didnt have a real place for a REAL black man in America?
Bernard Shaw left CNN as the top anchor how many years ago? Martin responded. Almost two decades?"
Actually, Shaw retired of his own volition in March 2001.
"So tell me, so whos hosting a show?" Martin continued. "Who right now, who right now is in a position to get a primetime show? Whos up there hosting specials?
Well, Don Lemon has his own show. Up until December, T.J. Holmes also had his own show but left for BET.
who?
Who is that?
No doubt about it . . .
CNN is nothing but a nest of bigots.
Did he axe CNN why he got the axe?
Just never could make a comeback after Laugh In was cancelled, eh?
Hey Martin, the race hustler Sharpton could probably get you in at PMSNBC.
Dang... I thought this about Rowan & Martin....
WTH... I thought both of those guys were white...
He should have gone into syndication like Bill Dance.
Has Martin ever seen himself? The first time I ever saw him, I wondered what they saw in him to put him in front of a camera with a mike — in the first place. And it was nothing to do with color — it was quality, both in delivery and substance. B grade.
spit
Er, Rollie - only 5 people watch CNN anymore and it doesn't matter who the host is. They are all passed out.
My first thought was that he was great on Laugh In but that’s been ages ago. :=)
Funny he doesn’t mention those racist cracker CNN execs are “largely” Democrats!
I need to work on my typing speed when posting from my phone.
“Who is that?”
I seem to recall Arsenio Hall saying he was going to bump Johnny Carson of his late-night throne. Where is he now?
You know, like Oprah.
Oh, yea Arsenio Hall, totally forgot about him.
