LAS VEGASFormer Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks has been arrested in California on charges including resisting arrest and throwing objects, just hours after he became the first lawmaker ever expelled from the Nevada Legislature.
Jail records show Barstow police arrested Brooks, 41, at about 7 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 15 at Stoddard Wells.
"We had started to discuss possible next steps," Mitchell Posin, Brooks' attorney, told The Associated Press Friday. "Next thing I know, I heard about this."
Posin said he had no details about the arrest, or about why Brooks was on the interstate in Barstow.
Records show the North Las Vegas Democrat was taken to a San Bernardino County jail in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., on $100,000 bail.
The Nevada Assembly voted Thursday morning to oust Brooks, after Assembly Majority Leader William Horne, D-Las Vegas, called him "potentially dangerous" and said lawmakers didn't feel safe with him in the building.
"This really saddens me," Horne said Friday, after learning of the arrest. "I hope they get Steven the help he clearly needs before he or someone else is hurt or worse."
This is the third time Brooks has been arrested since January.

Only five paragraphs before party affiliation was disclosed. Better than usual.
Since Brooks’ Party affiliation isn’t mentioned, are we safe in assuming the obvious?
Yup! :)
AP must be slipping!
Democrats: a species that is intentionally killing America!
All of these recent mass murders have been committed by registered Democrats.
Every case of graft in local, state and federal government has been committed by Democrats.
The Republicrat Party may be the stupid party, but a close majority of the American voter is brain dead!
Thanks, I see it now, though it is buried, and not directly associated with his name in the same sentence.
Threatening to murder people (including the Speaker of the NV Assembly), firearms-related arrests, and even denial of a gun purchase through the NICS system right at the same time a few Nevada assembly curmudgeons are trying to get gun control on the legislative calendar. Well, he sure helped derail that, because after all the background check system worked: A loonjob liberal Democrat NV legislator was prevented from getting a gun!
By the way, Stoddard Wells CA is absolutely out in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave desert. I can just imagine this fool ripping off his pants and slapping the desert ground with them crying and shrieking and having to be tackled to the ground by police who were probably thinking "What the F'ing F is with THIS guy?!". Couldn't have happened to a nicer gun-grabbing Democrat.
Now that’s going “Scorched Earth.”
Why, this guy looks like one of eric holder’s people! He obviously figgered he was above the law.
No more “assault weapons” for him.
Why was he arrested?
What did he do?
Two stories in a newspaper near that area. Go to: www.desertdispatch.com
I thought the article said he was arrested in Barstow, another crap hole in the Mojave. Maybe I’d better read the whole thing and break FR tradition:)
Sounds like he was about to go “Falling Down” when they caught him although they haven’t charged him yet for the weapon and ammo they found in the SUV.
Yup. If he were an R, it would have been mentioned in the headline.
Well, he sure helped derail that, because after all the background check system worked: A loonjob liberal Democrat NV legislator was prevented from getting a gun! “””
Based upon the local news out of Reno, I was left with the impression that the GUN STORE OWNER recognised Brooks, and that his ‘application’ to the Justice Department didn’t even get processed.
The GUN STORE OWNER put a halt to the purchase.!!
Perhaps Channel 8 in Reno-—ABC said it wrong.
What no race card use?,oh wait it friday slow news day.
I am searching for the facts on what happened, whether it was a state hold on his NICS or that Scheel’s denied him. I’m thinking it was a state hold or Washoe that prohibited him because he might have just gone elsewhere and attempted to purchase there.
