New York Democratic Rep. Jose Serrano reintroduced a bill in Congress on Friday to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which places term limits on the U.S. presidency.

The bill, which has been referred to committee, would allow Barack President Obama to become the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to seek a third term in office.

H.J. Res. 15 proposes “an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.”

Agreed 100%. But it’s a lesson in poor draftsmanship. These things matter, and our side has to make sure that it’s always paying attention.

The old saw, “It’s a government of laws and not men” is, and always has been, nonsense.

Freedom has always required what used to be called ‘men of goodwill’ as well as a measure of what used to be common morality.

An absolute dictatorship can be tolerable, and democracy can be totalitarian, depending on morality and goodwill.

The VP and President are elected by the same vote. A vote for one is a vote for both. So I don't think you can say that the VP is not elected if he replaces the President.

The only exception would be Gerald Ford, the only man not elected President by the Electoral College or the House of Representatives. Ford was nominated by Richard Nixon and confirmed by Congress to replace Spiro Agnew after Agnew resigned. When Nixon later resigned himself, Ford became President without ever being elected.
