Why is our government education system so dysfunctional? Perhaps because parents often don’t get the truth and administrators and teachers are constantly fighting each other.
That much can be discerned from the words of Karen Lewis, president of the radical Chicago Teachers Union.
Lewis appeared before the New York Collective of Radical Educators (an appropriate audience, to be sure) March 16 to give the keynote address at the group’s annual conference.
Lewis reminisced about her teaching days, when she would lie to parents when it came time to discuss their child’s performance. She then said – because of her lies – the student became her “hostage” who would do what she wanted.

This “teacher” should be immediately brought up on charges of child abuse
It’s a shame that the taxpayers don’t get to see this union teacher in action.
Liberals always want to justify spending ‘for the children’ and to ‘provide the best education on the planet” according to an Obama speech.
The truth is we have fed the education monster for over 50 years and even established a cabinet department with the result that our children are less well-educated than in the past. If you don’t believe that, there is an 8th grade test from the 1800s on the internet that most adults today could not pass.

The teach was joking about how she would ‘lie’ to parents saying how wonderful their children were... and the kids (who were expecting her to lower the boom) then gave her no more trouble because they became ‘hostages’ - it was A JOKE

This is a red herring. Making hay out of these remarks here makes FR into a joke.
Karen Lewis is fugly, inside and out. She weighs about 400 pounds and since I live in the Chicago area, we get to see that on our TV screens most nights during the local news. Months have gone by with either a teachers’ strike just around the corner, a teachers’ strike under way, or the closure of over 100 public schools just around the corner due to declining attendance and budget restraints.
She never passes up an opportunity to step in front of a camera, block out any view of anything behind her, and run her mouth about “the children of Chicago.” The funny thing is that whenever the CTU gets its way, nothing improves for children — but teachers get more money, shorter hours etc.
In which town do you live? I live near Mundelein. Do you think that Chicago should have an elected school board? I think they should have an elected board, with 25 districts. The current board is appointed, and that might cause some of the members to make decisions based on the wishes of mayor.
Most communities elect their school boards. In Chicago, the Daley machine controls everything and they don’t trust the voters enough to pick the machine candidates for the school board. Rahm Emanuel, just like the school board, is a very obedient tool of the machine.
I live in Glendale Heights for a couple more days. After that, we’re moving. We are no longer in Peter Roskam’s House district — the Democratic Party’s redistricting put us in Joe Walsh’s district for about 19 months, but now Tammy Duckworth is our congress creature and I find that completely unacceptable.

I hope that your new town will be represented by many Republicans. In Dec., I had a republican congressman, Joe Walsh; republican state senator, Dan Duffy; and republican state rep., Ed Sullivan. Because of the new maps, I have a democrat congressman, Brad Scheinder; democrat state sen., Terry Link; and democrat state rep., Carol Sente.
