JCPenney CEO Ron Johnson has quietly begun to hike prices across the companys stores, The Post has learned.
Its a humiliating about-face as the former Apple exec scrambles to restore the traditional sales events he ditched last year.
The increases are significant, as prices return broadly to previous levels before Johnson slashed them in his fair and square initiative. The push permanently lowered prices while eliminating sales events and coupons in February 2012, sources said.
A pair of Nike swimming trunks priced at $25, for example, has been raised to $45, according to data reviewed by The Post.
A bikini top under the retailers Arizona label was hiked to $24 from $15, while an Arizona mens polo shirt is now $14, up from $9, the data show.

The fit will be just as wrong and the fabric just as cheap at either price point. :)
Buh-bye!!
Sounds like the perfect business strategy to me! < / sarcasm >
The two JC stores in our general area are like ghost towns. Their floors are absent merchandise. Look empty. The men’s suit section of our closest one has dried up to two Ben Matlock gray suits.
I have always thought JC Penney’s inventory was of “above average” quality. But, I hadn’t been in one of their stores for about a year.
The other day my wife and I went to one and we were both appalled at the low quality of the merchandise. Yes, the prices were lower, but the quality seemed to be of K-Mart, no below K-Mart quality. We left without purchasing anything.
I used to go to JC Penney’s expecting the prices to be somewhat higher, but with good quality stuff. No so anymore, at least at the one we went too a few days ago.
yeah! The store is in trouble and RAISING PRICES will help!
The problem is the dumbass lowered them without bothering to explain it to the public.
I uised to go there, but usually only when I saw somethign in a sales ad.
So he cancelled sales ads- I dont think I have been there since.
But if there would have been an advertising blitz saying “here’s what we did” then I might have gone just to check it out.
We used to shop there before the fair and square change. Sorry, but they just completely botched that and clearly should have done more research. People hated the change, and it was complicated.
And while I find Ellen funny and didn’t care they hired her, I have been annoyed at their ads throwing the homosexual lifestyle in my face showing gay couples etc.
"Pay not attention to the gasping and wretching of the people, Sire. Must be a sales issue."
JCPenney presents: The Emperor's New Clothes.
With Ellen DeGeneres as the Emperor.
Ron Johnson is an ASS that took a very nice company and pushed it into HELL.
I am well aware of topless beachs, now bottomless?
Ah, the Apple Genius, at it again.
JCP’s board should be run out on a rail with this guy.
Apple is what happens to cults when their leaders die. It is so strange to see the pockets of sway the Apple apostles have among the ignorant out there pretending to lead people, like they do in companies from time to time.
What was it Goethe said?
“There is nothing so terrifying than ignorance in action.”
Something like that.
I liked Mervins for years and then they started selling low quality merchandise mostly made in Mexico. Then they went out of business. The last time I went in the store they had an employee on the floor that couldn’t assist me because she didn’t speak English.
Ok so who was it that first said “Hey I know- lets hire a libtard with a social agenda to run our company!!”
and who else went “yeah thats a great idea”
the dog is dead, but the tail still wags.
Same here. Our local JCP used to be full of customers; I stopped in the other day, and I saw maybe two people walking around.
I struck up a conversation with a teenaged sales clerk about the situation, and the poor girl almost broke into a sweat. She kept repeating, “Well, we just have to move forward”, like a robot. Clearly it was the stock response management had given employees to use.

The JC Penny here is so empty that you can just walk in and urinate on the floor. It isn’t even illegal. This libtard “CEO” is a buffoon.
But make sure you keep schmoozing those homos! They’re your salvation.
