In the same way that Mark Kelly's life was forever changed when his wife Gabby was shot in a Safeway parking lot by a madman with a Glock 19, so too has his life been touched by witnessing his 18-year-old daughter Claudia's dog attack a helpless baby sea lion in Laguna Beach, California. The last time it was at a congressional outreach meeting; this time it was while on a family vacation at Goff Cove Beach, where the message is: "If you do visit this area please do not take, collect or disturb any of the marine life."
Leisurely walking the beach near the Montage Laguna Beach resort with his daughter and her 65-pound American bulldog, the dog suddenly exhibited instinctual behavior when it noticed a sea lion pup, broke free from the leash, and charged the helpless pinniped. Sea lions detect prey by sensing victim vibrations with their whiskers; suffice it to say that the Kelly dog seriously messed up this particular sea lion's vibrissae. After locking down on its face with a mandible that exerts 235 pounds of force, assault bull dogs can now be added to the list of the sea lions' natural predators that includes sharks, whales, and polar bears.
Ruining the mood in an otherwise affluent seaside artists' community, the Kelly dog, after hunting and capturing prey that typically only includes bear, wild boar, raccoon, and squirrel, could not be coaxed to discharge the hemorrhaging seal from its 42 large teeth. A commotion ensued as passersby rushed to the seafaring mammal's defense, because the stubbornly uncooperative dog simply refused to release his catch from his grip.

No, but I have a Glock 19 that has hurt nothing but paper and a few bottles.
I wonder if that dog was purchased legally and a background check was done.
This the perfect metaphor for gun control... Gun-free ocean zone, disarmed baby sea lion (us), stupid dog-owner (politicians), cop arriving after the carnage (Mark Kelly). From the moment I layed eyes on Kelly I thought to myself, “here’s what we call a putz.” And boy was I right.
I’ll bet Mark Kelley bought this assault dog for his 18 y/o daughter as a straw buyer.
Karma.
Maybe we can now get Jack Hanna to testify before Congress as to why we need strict dog control and background checks on anyone who seeks to buy assault dogs.
Maybe Jack Hanna could testify along with a large picture of a baby seal.
>>>Why does anyone need an assault dog with 42 teeth and a 235 PSI bite?<<<
To kill as many inncoent, men, women, children and baby marine mammals as quickly as possible, of course.
And unlike “assault weapons”, assault caninines can and do go off all by themselves and kill.
We need universal background checks and registration for assault dog owners, limits on the number of evil features on assault dogs and high taxes and anger management classes with all purchases of dog food.
If it will save the life of just one child (human or Sea Lion) we must take whatever action is necessary.
If not for the bystander video on youtube this story would never have seen the light of day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUyoU-juHTk
Was the dog on a leash? Was there a leash law in this community? If so, why did Mark Kelly completely disregard this law?
Clearly, his assault dog was not safely locked away from people unable to properly handle it.
He was just showing us how easy it is for any average citizen like him to obtain a licensed and legally owned killer attack dog and murder baby seals.
Bkmk
They should limit the number of teeth these assault dogs can have, that’s the ticket!
it should come with a muzzle lock that is built into the cost.
Killing or harrassing a sea lion is a felony under the marine mammal protection act. People get arrested for riding manatees, but Kelly’s daughter is responsbile for a sea-lion’s death and doesnt even get a ticket.
Yep. Why can’t he just carry concealed? Wouldn’t that be safer than parading around with a lion on a leash?
Folks in Monterey have been busted for simply trying to get sunbathing seals off the decks of their boats.
