I agree 100%. In a 2006/2008-type environment, the RATs could, in theory, pick up SC-01, SC-02, SC-05 and SC-07 to join Clyburn’s SC-06 in a 5-2 RAT delegation. The GOP is still favored in 6 of the 7 CDs, but only the SC-03 and SC-04 can be described as safely GOP. Drawing a second black-majority CD—which, as you may recall, I’ve been advocating for about ten years now—indeed would result in 5 safely GOP districts and 2 safely RAT districts. Let’s just hope that GOP primary voters nominate good candidates with local appeal.

I don’t like it but I would rather concede them a 2nd Black seat rather than worry about several GOP seats falling to White rats who could then be statewide candidates.

I hope you are right about this race and that the former Mrs. Sanford doesn’t stir up a ruckus.

I will support the Democrat if Sanford wins this nom. I’m absolutely FURIOUS that this has been allowed to happen.
