Merriam Webster describes an 'Uncle Tom' as "a black who is overeager to win the approval of whites (as by obsequious behavior or uncritical acceptance of white values and goals)".
Palestinian 'journalist' Abdel Bari Atwan describes US President Barack Obama as an "Uncle Tom" - an epithet derived from Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin. The slightly more controversial version, though hardly more insulting, is "House Negro" - a black person who works in his slave master's house, while the others toil in the field.
Bari Atwan writes in his blog, following Obama's visit to Israel and the West Bank:
"Never in my life have I seen a US President beg for the approval of the Israelis while demeaning himself in the process quite like Barack Obama has done during his current trip... We thought hed understand the Palestinians suffering under Israeli occupation... He has broken our trust and dashed our hopes, reminding us instead of Uncle Tom - the black servant whose subservience to his white master overcame his humanity."

Remember the days when our MSM gushed that Obama would be more effective at diplomacy because the world loved him and hated Bush? I guess we’re finding out that certain parts of the world hate any American president, no matter how willing he is to bend over and kow-tow to them.
If the shoe fits.....SHINE IT.
(is that racist?)
This journalist is not alone. Many people of color see Obama as an Uncle Tom who is over eager to appease whites. Meanwhile, most whites see Obama as more concerned with pleasing people of color than doing what’s best for the country and, as a result, what’s best for white people. That should give you an idea how truly differently white people and people of color view the world, and never shall the two meet. Yet mass intra-nation diversity is our strength??
Well, if you study Obama’s actions instead of his words, he is overeager to please the central banks and Saudi Arabia. I don’t think whites, blacks, Jews, small business owners, large corporations, Socialist radicals, or one-eyed lesbian badminton-playing ex-Marines rank very high on his priority list - whatever he may say. :)
Not exactly the way I would put it.
Meanwhile, most whites see Obama as more concerned with pleasing people of color than doing whats best for individual freedom and, as a result, whats best for everybody.
“Uncle Tom” is the most Christian person you can imagine.
Christ-like in his human compassion and forgiveness.
Truly a man of peace, living the Word.
Most people have never read Uncle Tom’s Cabin and have no idea of the man.
Calling someone an Uncle Tom as an insult baffles me.
Hated but feared is far preferable to hated and laughed at.
Heh, you beat me by a minute and a half... And you actually read the book - so kudos.
Oh no that’s rich!
Back at ya’. . .you read the book as well.
Now. . .if we can only get Holder’s People to read the book!
Indeed, Uncle Tom is the most pure-hearted and inspirational character in American fiction.
But Christian saints like Tom aren’t up for violent class struggle, and that’s the essence of Marxism. Therefore, Marxists regard Tom with contempt.
Here’s an article that traces the history of the pejorative “Uncle Tom”.
http://www.theroot.com/views/when-uncle-tom-became-insult
It cites an article in the Chicago Defender that used “Uncle Tom and Topsy” as pejoratives in 1910. The same publication would hire the Marxist-Leninist Langston Hughes a few years later.
It’s indeed baffling how people either revel in their ignorance or call good evil and evil good, as Marx quite literally did.
Yeah. You need to be PC and use Bill Clinton's "A few years ago he (Obama) would have been carrying our bags."
...I thought it was fetching their coffee.....
