I walked through my local Victoria’s Secret the other day. A girl of about 14 or 15 was picking out panties and getting her little boyfriend’s approval.

Its ultimately up to parents to protect their children from predators - and as far as I am concerned, I put rapists in panelled-vans, corporate marketers for Victoria’s Secret, and much of Hollywood into the same category.

Although its a matter of degree, they are all predators that want something unholy and unhealthy from young girls.

The ‘Pink’ line has been around for a long time and I never remember it being marketed to 10-15 year olds. My wife used to be a regional manager for VS and she saw the petition yesterday and was confused. She said it was the ‘sportier’ line for college age girls. Never heard of anything they sell being marketed to that age range.

I remember some years back when Abercrombie & Fitch did something along the same line, and got huge publicity from rightly outraged parents. Unfortunately, it only made the brand more popular with the target market-teens.

On principle, you are compelled to speak out against this kind of thing, but the culture is so messed-up that speaking out against it only winds up working to the advantage of the company. It’s a no-win for those oppose the further sexualisation of young people.

The technical designation for the target market is “juniors” which in women’s fashion is early pubescent to 25ish (when the body stops growing). The ratios of various body parts are different for juniors than adults, which is the big reason for the designation, even when they’re the same size juniors don’t fit right in adult clothes or vice versa. The Pink line has been around for over a decade, these guys really haven’t been paying attention.
