Democratic Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia on Monday announced his support for gay marriage, making him the latest high-profile politician to state publicly that his opinion on the issue had changed.
"I support marriage equality because it is the fair and right thing to do. Like many Virginians and Americans, my views on gay marriage have evolved, and this is the inevitable extension of my efforts to promote equality and opportunity for everyone," he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page, noting that he signed an amicus brief urging the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, which bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages.

Warner's public announcement follows similar statements of support for gay marriage from politicians including Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman, and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, a Democrat.
Warner is running for re-election in 2014 in his highly competitive home state.

No mater what the party we will see many politicians going from “Against Gay Marriage” to “For Gay Marriage.”
We will not see politicians going from “For Gay Marriage” to “Against Gay Marriage.”
In the old Virginia I would certainly confirm that probability, but now, I and unfortunately many others live in the "new Virginia."
roberts gave a primo seat to his homosexual relative

kennedy has been warming up to homosexuals

they have their five so politicians are lining up.
It must be presumed that on some occasions their close friend and confidant McGreevey was saved from certain arrest by State police agents tasked with the job of looking out for him while he visited Virginia.
“Might this increase his vulnerability in Virginia? He was polling well, but maybe this will hurt him. I hope so. Guys a bandwagon jumping SOB.”
He’s also the consummate politician. If he’s coming out in favor of gay marriage, that means his polls are telling him that Virginians already support it.
He’d never stick his neck out when he can lead from behind. That’s the “bandwagon” you reference.
there are no secrets in DC. The political class and the MSM know what is going on.
the USSC only reads the NYT and watches MSNBC.
They don’t care about the united states of america.
just the incredible wonderfulness of being incredibly wonderful.
black robe fever on display.
“I suspect the DNC has already been tipped off as to how the Supremes will vote on this issue. The dems have been given the OK to to go public with their support of what has already been decided.”
Quite the contrary. They haven’t even had arguments yet, nor questions, nor a vote, nor written opinions.
The purpose of all these “coming outs” (three US senators in two weeks) is to pressure the Supremes into voting the way the winds seem to be blowing.
Oh, yes, good point. When I lived there, the media was fawning over him. He never did not wrong and if he had, they covered for him making him popular today.
The RATS are stampeding.
Please God may I never evolve to that region of darkness that sodomites live in.
VA ping!
I doubt you will ever have a Republican Senator or Governor in Virginia again. Maybe in the next for years, but not after that.
satan always overplays his hand.
I share your concern, OldPossum. How ironic: they’re mocking God during Holy Week.
Warner is a homo.
Don’t you just love a guy with such strong moral convictions.
So, what is Warner’s position on Polygamy and Incestuous Marriage?
Once you step in the quicksand with both feet, you sink.
Oh, excellent!
From a state that voted to ban civil unions.
Oddly, none of these politicians has dared to present a bill to repeal DOMA. They are all hoping the Supreme Court does it for them, so they don’t have to actually take a vote.
After reading other posts, let me clarify my “ excellent”....
I think/hope this puts the screws to him in his re-election because, as Prop 8 passed even in lib dim CA shows, even the Obozo phone cravers don’t buy into “gay marriage”.
Prop 8 is going down not because the people are against it but because it’s in the court system. Typical of libs when they don’t get what they want from the ballot box.
Now if only we had a party who stood a candidate who would have the guts to take it to Warner on his gay marriage stance. THAT’S where we lose...
Gutless wonders....
