Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) today introduced a budget he says will balance the budget in five years with $2.3 trillion in tax cuts.
Pauls Platform to Revitalize America brings spending below the historical average of 19.1 percent of GDP in the first year and spends $9.6 trillion less over the next 10 years based on the current Congressional Budget Office baseline. It achieves a $17 billion surplus in FY2018 and reforms entitlement programs Medicare recipients, for example, would receive the same healthcare plan as members of Congress.
It replenishes $126 billion to the Defense Department stripped in sequestration and puts an annual cap on foreign aid at $5 billion. The plan also repeals ObamaCare and Dodd Frank.
Pauls budget kills four government agencies: the departments of Commerce, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Energy. It also privatizes the Transportation Security Administration.
Washington has a serious and reckless spending problem that must be re-evaluated. American families across the country are required to live by a budget and Congress should be no different every taxpayer dollar needs to be spent more wisely. Therefore, I am offering a plan that will address this countrys looming debt crisis in a truly timely manner balancing the budget in just five years, Paul said. The time has come for a change that will restore fiscal order in this country, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that this happens.
His budget includes a flat tax and lifts barriers to domestic energy exploration and production.
UPDATE: Late this evening the Senate voted on Pauls budget as an amendment to the continuing resolution. It failed 18-81.

“Better still, publish the names of the 27 RINOS that voted with the RATS.”

RIP - the sooner the better.
Ease up there, Partner. Don't get hornswaggled by one of them RINO's slinkin' up fer another term.
Thad is a joke
Sounds like a good start.
Where are all those FReepers with questions about if Rand was weak on Defense?
“It replenishes $126 billion to the Defense Department stripped in sequestration...”
There’s part of the answer.
NASA, FAA, and the FCC can go too. Not in Art 1 Sec 8 and their jobs could better be performed by a private consortium like the IEEE.
All hat no cattle
A good start....
Hey, it’s a start!!
WOW !
Rubio: (MIA-FL)
That's like my comment on Ryan's, since it isnt going anywhere then why not be serious?
Amazing that these GOPs are talking about supporting giving illegals the vote and then throwing out these fantasy budgets, as if their new Dreamer voters would support them.
Notice that Rand did not mention this last week in his 'reach out' speech to that Hispanic group, who he called 'natural conservatives' ????
That’s what I’m talkin’ about. CUT CUT CUT. And start with Government departments FIRST and foremost.
As well, any and all Progressive legislation that is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Go Rand. I may not agree with him 100% of the time, but he is one true patriot at least TRYING to take back this country from these elitist power hungry a-holes.
“Call your senators: Oh never mind”
I wasn’t sure if your “Oh never mind” was because the vote had already been held or but as I suspect that you didn’t believe they would do the right thing and actually vote for spending cuts and responsibility. They have both discouraged me but especially Senator Cochran.
DOD umbrella: It used to be that way but it got to be a bit troublesome because the Air Force needed most of the bombs but the Navy needed nuke fuel. Splitting the cost of building/maintaining the stuff was where it got awkward. Leaving an agency just to handle nuke material has always been the least cumbersome but I’m with it otherwise. Dump the rest of the DOE and throw in the EPA to make up any difference. Sounds like Rand has made a good start-—getting a 20% positive vote on short notice is a good sign. Now we just have to shame the rest into getting their surgery wherein their cranials are separated from their anals, a condition that developes with over exposure to vitamin K street.
The Department of Commerce was created in 1904 and its main purpose is “to create jobs, promote economic growth, encourage sustainable development and improve standards of living for all Americans.” If it had achieved its stated purposes why the “War on Proverty”, food stamps, etc/ 110 years old and it has failed its stated purpose.
The Department of Education was created in1979 with the stated purpose of improving the education system as measured by college board scores. Does anyone think that the college board scores have improved over the last 30 plus years?
The Department of Housing and Urban Development was founded in 1965 with the expressed purpose “is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.” If you walk down almost every “Martin Luther King Blvd” in the nation you'll have to wonder where all teh money went supporting the 14 laws issued since its establishment as a Cabinet level organization.
The Department of Energy was expanded of a nuclear centric organization to being the point man for energy independence after the first oil embargo in 1973. Its publically announced purpose was to make the US independent from Middle East Oil. Forty years later how is that going?
None of the four departments listed are Constitutionally mandated functions of the Federal Government. None of them have a record of successfully meeting their mission statements. So what business would continue to pay for failure and expand failing operations? Why should the tax payers continue to pay for institutional/bureaucratic failure?
Is he going to run again? Any thoughts or rumours about who may run aginst him in the primary? I’m sure the field would be larger if he were to retire but at this point I really don’t want him to get it by acclamation.
So he’s an amnesty-promoting loon. He still has a lot of good ideas.
He seems to be immune from all Tea Party fury. The only time I ever saw the guy in an interview was in the Trent Lott/ Strom Thurmond firestorm years ago. He just stays in ths shadows and quietly votes for pork and sometimes a little to the left.
