University Files Charges Against Student who Refused to Stomp on Jesus

A Florida Atlantic University student who filed a complaint against his professor after he was ordered to stomp on the name of Jesus has been brought up on academic charges by the school and may no longer attend class.

The “Notice of Charges” against Ryan Rotela is contrary to a statement the university released late Friday night saying no one had been disciplined as a result of the classroom activity.

“We can confirm that no student has been expelled, suspended or disciplined by the university as a result of any activity that took place during this class,” the university said in a prepared statement.

However, according to a letter written by Associate Dean Rozalia Williams, Rotela is facing a litany of charges – including an alleged violation of the student code of conduct, acts of verbal, written or physical abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, coercion or other conduct which threaten the health, safety or welfare of any person.”

“In the interim, you may not attend class or contact any of the students involved in this matter – verbally or electronically – or by any other means,” Williams wrote to Rotela. “Please be advised that a Student Affairs hold may be placed on your records until final disposition of the complaint.”

Hiram Sasser, director of litigation at the Liberty Institute, told Fox News the university’s behavior is “outlandish” and called their press release “inaccurate.” “We believe the university punished him in retaliation for him exposing the class assignment to the public,” Sasser said. “Sadly, it is a testimony to the indoctrination that some of the public schools and universities are engaging in – to demonize anything that was valuable in the culture.”

The Liberty Institute wants Rotela reinstated with full credit for the course – along with an apology.

“The sadder but truer lesson for adults is after stomping on the paper with the name of a probable icon is:

Why in the world would you follow that instruction blindly?
Does this have any meaning to why tragedies are committed by blindly following idiots in power?
Would teaching adults the meaning of refusal to follow orders be an important concept in a free society?”

Interesting take.
I actually “get” the object of the lesson the instructor was working toward. The ridiculous part is the method employed- it seems juvenile for a college level course. Is rhetoric and argumentation too much to ask from the good professor? Do we really have to rely on cheap stunts to get our points across?

I would use this as an example of why the value of degrees for the recently graduated has taken a nosedive. The unemployment rate as a function of time since graduation, field graduated in, and level of degree answers so much about the pervasive high unemployment rate and who they are actually competing with.

The competition for the newly graduated in some fields is the better qualified without degrees.

The assumption is that every student holds Jesus sacred. If the assignment were truly about what it claims to be about, it would direct students to write the name of a figure sacred to them and stomp on it. Otherwise the effect is unequal because an atheist asked to do this is in an entirely different frame of mind. So the stated purpose of the assignment appears to be a lie or disguised attempt at brainwashing and breaking down ONLY CERTAIN belief sets.

Can they legally prevent him from contacting the other students in the class?

Interesting that they frame it as "the students involved in this matter

...Deandre Poole, who also happens to be vice chair of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party."

Hey, Donald Trump has a huge estate in Palm Beach. He might like to get involved. He once sued the city because they tried to make him take down an American flag that they said was "too large."

You do know that the student who stood up for Jesus was a Mormon? If there were any Catholics in the class, they stood by and said nothing.

The bitch that insisted the students stomp on the pictures is head of the department. Lying is simply a matter of course for her.

When the lawsuit is filed (you can bet he will file one) the only thing the Universities lawyer and the students lawyer will argue about is how much the university is going to pay him.

The university would be fools if they let this go to court. It will just cost them more if they do.

“...or contact any of the students involved in this matter – verbally or electronically – or by any other means,”

Just the wording of this is outrageous. WTF do they think that they are? Show me the court order, otherwise, go to hell.

I know I would immediately sh**can a resume coming from a graduate of that place.

Wonder what the prof would have said when he saw that the student had written “Mohammed” instead and stopped the crap out of it - and then say that he was instructed to do so by said prof.

The student would be in some danger, but the prof would be groveling before any outraged Muslim on campus - or wetting himself as he hid in some dark closet.

The legal term, as I recall, is ‘individually and severally’.
