It’s payback time for our insane energy policy
Telegraph (UK) ^ | 23 Mar 2013 | Christopher Booker

Posted on 03/24/2013 1:56:24 PM PDT by neverdem

An obsession with CO2 has left us dangerously short of power as coal-powered stations are forced to close

As the snow of the coldest March since 1963 continues to fall, we learn that we have barely 48 hours’ worth of stored gas left to keep us warm, and that the head of our second-largest electricity company, SSE, has warned that our generating capacity has fallen so low that we can expect power cuts to begin at any time. It seems the perfect storm is upon us.

The grotesque mishandling of Britain’s energy policy by the politicians of all parties, as they chase their childish chimeras of CO2-induced global warming and windmills, has been arguably the greatest act of political irresponsibility in our history. Three more events last week brought home again just what a mad bubble of make-believe these people are living in.

Under the EU’s Large Combustion Plants Directive, we lost two more major coal-fired power stations, Didcot A...

--snip--

So we are doomed to see Britain’s lights going out, all because the feather-headed lunatics in charge of our energy policy still believe that they’ve got to do something to save the planet from that CO2-induced global warming which this weekend has been covering much of the country up to a foot deep in snow. Meanwhile, the Indians are planning to build 455 new coal-fired power stations which will add more CO2 to the atmosphere of the planet every week than Britain emits in a year.

Thank you, David Cameron, leader of “the greenest government ever”. Thank you, Ed Miliband, father of the Climate Change Act, the most expensive suicide note in history. Between you, you seem determined to switch off our lights, lock the door and throw away the key. We owe you more than we can say.

I’m probably sounding cold when I say this, but I do love it when the chickens come home to roost.

Well, the electric chair is out of the question -- might just be the final straw.

“I’m probably sounding cold when I say this,...”

Actually, you’re sounding like you’re warm and toasty. It’s the Brits who are cold.

The good news is we have places (China and India) to sell our coal to, LOL.

Are the British able to burn wood and coal for heat...or is that banned too?

Is freezing their only (self-imposed) option?

We are watching the West commit suicide. We tried to stop it, but the west and its klepto-oligarchial globalist financial structure, wants to commit suicide. Not much can be done to stop it now.

UK’s coldest spring since 1963 claims 5,000 lives

Germany – Coldest spring on record (for northern and eastern Germany)

The average heating-season “room temperature” in Britain is lower than in the U.S. or Canada.

Here’s an interesting article on the topic (read the comments too):

Have you read about all the protests going on in the NorthWest to prohibit building coal export/shipping ports???

One heck of a comment here:

Let me explain something to you Mr. Booker (and the rest of you Brits), since we deal with the same people here in the states.

There is NO ‘insanity’ or ‘madness’ to these policies. These people implementing these policies know FULL WELL that they would bring your economy TO ITS KNEES with an 80% reduction in greenhouse gases. When you do the math, with that level of reduction, it will be difficult to have heating in the winter, and IMPOSSIBLE to also have lorrie transport or even factories operating at the same time.

The loss of electricity production is what transformed North Korea from a fairly modern, industrial country (albeit run by a Communist nutcase) into the starvation nightmare that it is now. NOTHING ELSE. The Soviet era ended, and the Russians stopped sending them crude to run their power plants - and the food supply dried up. It’s well documented.

As to motive - very simple. To bring your society down a few notches (just like they’re trying to do here). Ever since their protest-filled college days they have been FILLED WITH GUILT about the material success of the West versus the rest of the world and have ALWAYS wanted to do something about it. Now they’re older and have the levers of power. Like us, most of you people trust them because you cannot bring yourself to believe that they could be that bad - but as was stated in the article, other countries are JUMPING IN to produce the cheap, dirty, power, as we strangle ourselves. Have a look:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...

China now leads the US. China, India, and Russia now lead the EU and US, combined. In probably 5 years, China ALONE will lead both the US and EU combined. Those trend lines aren’t going to change, we are going to be left in the dust as those countries industrialize.

We are NO LONGER the kings of this planet. If anyone, it’s China, India and similar countries. Because of that we CANNOT save the world from evil carbon. But we can still kill ourselves trying, by having freezing cold winters, and like North Korea, probably starving, once the power plants are shut off.

So maybe it’s time to question the people you’ve trusted for the past couple of decades - for it’s hard to see how they are putting the interests of Brits first - and it’s also hard to see how they wouldn’t know the NIGHTMARE they are leading you to.

And per the article, we now sell wood chips to the UK.

Instead of getting Californians to move to Texas, Gov. Perry should be getting UK and European industries to locate in Texas. Energy prices are much cheaper there than in Europe, gas is about 1/3 as costly in Texas.

No, but I assume it might still be viable to ship via railroad to Canada or Mexico and then export?

My SIL works for Rolls Royce here in Indiana.
They consider us their “Mexicans” based on the low cost of doing business compared to Britain.

I remember decades ago hearing how cold they had it in England. It amazed me that they would put up with that crap...but they did and still do. They were also dealing with gas rationing when there wasn’t even a shortage or even a price spike. They were just living out the last years (and still are) of an empire rotting away from the center.

Starting to look like the west was suckered into suicide. The Soviet Union used their Programmed Communist agents here in the US to hamper and weaken our industrial output. While that is occurring the Russians and the East are not weakening or hampering their industrial output. Thus they have jumped way ahead of us in military capability. Right now the country of India with just 4 submarines can annihilate 60 % of all major US cities with just 4 subs and 15 minutes. And there is not a thing the US can do right now to stop that. And Russia and China have even greater capabilities.

The way this is playing out right now, all Western governments will either be overthrown or annihilated. Imagine, thousands dying every winter, and they are, as the planet heads into the colder times of the current Ice Age, while the AGW supporting governments try to eliminate as much energy production as possible. That is suicide. The people will eventually rise up and topple these governments or starve to death. And if we do not change course soon, the East will annihilate the current Western governments. Because in a cooling world, Russia and China will be the worse affected. Just use this winter as an example. And the Russians and Chinese know about all the black box projects the US has been running to insanely, suicidally try to cool the planet.
