Unfortunately, the article tells us nothing about the pay scale and benefits for transit workers.

If Chicago is similar to other urban areas, a bus driver would start at about $50,000 a year, with superb benefits, plus early retirement.

Those numbers would catch the attention of many of the white people I know.
