"I'm not going to be sitting in a class having my religious rights desecrated," student Ryan Rotela, a Mormon, told WPEC. "I truly see this as I'm being punished."
Rotela explained that his Intercultural Communications class was told to write Jesus' name on a piece of paper, then gather together and stamp on it. The student refused, however, and picked up the paper from the floor and put it back on the table.
The professor, Deandre Poole, was apparently trying to teach the students a "lesson in debate," but the student found the assignment to be insulting and offensive.
"I said to the professor, 'With all due respect to your authority as a professor, I do not believe what you told us to do was appropriate,'" Rotela said. 'I believe it was unprofessional and I was deeply offended by what you told me to do.'"
The student was suspended afterwards by the university, who is defending the instructor.
"As with any academic lesson, the exercise was meant to encourage students to view issues from many perspectives, in direct relation with the course objectives," Noemi Marin, the university's director of the school of communication and multimedia studies, told Fox News.
"While at times the topics discussed may be sensitive, a university environment is a venue for such dialogue and debate," Marin added.
Stamping on Jesus' name is actually an entire lesson which is included in the textbook for the class, called "Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition."
"Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper," a synopsis for the lesson reads.
"Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they can't step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture."
Paul Kengor, the executive director of the Center for Vision and Values at Grove City College, told Fox News that such a lesson is a direct example of secular society targeting Christianity.
"These are the new secular disciples of 'diversity' and 'tolerance' – empty buzzwords that make liberals and progressives feel good while they often refuse to tolerate and sometimes even assault traditional Christian and conservative beliefs," Kengor said.
James W. Neuliep - St. Norbert College
In this fully updated Fifth Edition of Intercultural Communication, author James W. Neuliep provides a clear contextual circular model for examining communication within cultural, micro-cultural, environmental, socio-relational, perceptual contexts, and verbal and nonverbal codes. The text begins with the broadest context; the cultural component of the model and progresses chapter by chapter through each component of the model. The later chapters then apply the model to the development and maintenance of intercultural relationships, the management of intercultural conflict, intercultural management, intercultural adaptation, culture shock, and intercultural competence.
Not trying to be a thread police, but this has been posted several times and needs to expose who the left really is. You want to bet that the prof would do the same and ask his students to write mohamed on another piece of paper and stomp on it?? Bet not.

Interestingly enough there is a site called “Rate my Professor” with students rating this professor. Maybe he needs some feedback: All we need to do is enter into the search engine: Deandre Poole rate my professor and it brings us to the site. Interesting that some students rate him as arrogant. Why is it that stupid, intolerant people are so arrogant?
I would have loved to see the response from the MSM if the name was “Obama”, or better yet “Michelle Obama”.
Goodness forbid that they should write Obamas name on the paper and stomp on it!! God bless Ryan for defending the Lord and his religious rights.
The Professor in question, Poole, is also the Co-Chair of the Palm Beach Democratic party.
I'm not holding my breath, though.
No, you're being persecuted son. Get used to it; it's the life of a Christian.
Never forget The Democratic National Party denounced God three times during the National Convention.
The student should have written the name “Mohammed” and stomped on that. Let’s see how far that would have gone.
“The student should have written the name Mohammed and stomped on that. Lets see how far that would have gone.”
Actually, the student should have written Mohammed and handed it to the professor to stamp on - to watch him squirm.

Professor Makes Students Stomp on Jesus ^
Since the original, the school has "apologized", said it was not the best of ways to go about it, and has promised that this "lesson" will not be repeated.
Although I haven't heard if they also apologized to the student or if he might have a law suit going which prompted the "apology".
Of course not. What makes a better target for a coward to deride, ridicule and discriminate? A religion that calls for its adherents to strike unbelievers "above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them"...or a religion whose adherents are told to "turn the other cheek"?
Just writing Obama on a piece of paper would make it glow in the dark.
he’d loose his job, if some islamic fanatic didn’t shoot him or blow up his house
BUT you can mock, trample on Christianity or Jewish religions in this PC immoral world.
As for me and my house we serve GOD and His Son.
Cheers to the young man, he has a 1st A right to his view and actions. Where is that idiot preacher *who calls himself a Christian, but isn’t * that is always trying to take God and Jesus out of the classroom? I don’t see him protesting the use of religion of any type here?
