Brunswick, Georgia (CNN) -- Two teenagers were arrested Friday in the shooting death of a 13-month-old boy who was in his stroller, according to police in Brunswick, Georgia.
The suspects are a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, Police Chief Tobe Green told reporters Friday. He said they are being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Green identified the older suspect as Demarquis Elkins, saying he will be treated as an adult in criminal proceedings. The 14-year-old was not identified because of his age.
"We are turning every stone to get a motive," said Green. A weapon has not been found.
Police offered a $10,000 reward for information and have received more than 30 leads.
Sherry West earlier told reporters that the incident occurred at 9 a.m. Thursday as she was walking home from the post office, pushing her son Antonio in a stroller. She said she saw two boys.
"A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn't have any money," she said. "And he said, 'Give me your money or I'm going to kill you and I'm going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,' and I said, "I don't have any money and don't kill my baby." The boy tried to grab her purse and opened fire when she said tried to tell him she had no money, West said, grazing her head. She said the boy then shot her in the leg.
She continued, "And then, all of a sudden, he walked over and he shot my baby in the face."

Windflyer....I have a job that has me on the subway systems of Chicago every day. I’ve lived here all my life and it’s never...even in the 70s been this bad. Its a constant ghetto menace. All the cups are trying to hold down the south side...the predators have moved north. It’s lawless.

I was shocked that my local news station(ABC 7 in Los Angeles) not only reported on what happened but also showed the suspects face and said his name..other networks haven’t said one peep about it
I moved out of the L.A. 'hood' in 1983 and never looked back. After having spent a couple of years of my childhood and all of my teenage years there, I knew when it was time to make a break for it.

The USSC ruled that a convicted defendant must be 18 at the time of the offense before he or she (or it) may be given the death penalty.
Personally, I think that is BS. The issue of punishment should largely be in the discretion of the jury and/or judge, and based on numerous factors, including the callousness of the crime.
Maybe a minimum of 16 years for the DP would be more appropriate. They either know right from wrong by that age or they never will.
But guess what else?
J. Kagan, writing for a 5-4 Court, ruled last year that giving minors life w/o parole is cruel and unusual punishment in violation of the 8th Amendment.
So, these lil’ darlins cannot even be sentenced to life w/o the possibility of parole! I understand that they can end up doing life based on the conviction, but the sentence is subject to mandatory periodic review.
There is not one major city that I have been to that does NOT have a crime infested MLK blvd..

She said she cooked eggs, grits and sausage for breakfast and that Elkins accompanied her and her children to run errands when they left at about 11:30 a.m.
“He was with us the whole time,” said Freeman, adding that she gave police the same account of her nephew’s whereabouts.
