A distraught mother as told how she pleaded with young robbers to spare her toddler's life before they shot him dead as he slept in his stroller.
Sherry West was pushing her 13-month-old son Antonio yards from their home in Brunswick, Georgia, early yesterday morning when she was approached by two African-American boys.
She told how one of them, who looked about 15, demanded money from her and threatened to kill her if she didn't give him any. She told him she didn't have any.
'He said: "Well, I'm going to kill your baby", and I said "Please don't kill my baby."
Ms West added: 'I put my arms over my baby and then he shoved me and then he shot my baby right in the head.' Ms West began CPR on Antonio but it was in vain and the infant, who had been sleeping when he was shot, died at the scene of the 9am attack.
The child's mother suffered a bullet wound to her leg which needed hospital treatment but was allowed home soon afterwards.
Antonio's father Louis Santiago said he wished he had been there to protect his son.
The robbers are said to be African-American, with one aged about 13-15 years and the other slightly younger. The elder one, who shot the infant, is of thick build with curly hair, while the younger one is aged 10-12. They fled on foot, taking nothing.
Ms West said she only realised the gun was real when she saw that the youth had shot her child dead.
At a news conference after the attack, Mayor Bryan Thompson said: 'This is obviously just a terrible day in the city of Brunswick made even more so by the senseless killing of a young child, and it appears perpetrated by children themselves.

I was responding (before checking the picture at the link)to someone who said it was a racist killing. Ethnicity/race have something to do with racism, don’t you agree?
I am terribly sad about this. BUT- this child is only 13 months away from being a cancer in his mother’s body.. how do we expect youth to have any reverence for life?
Please Father, come and comfort this woman. I would be devastated to have lost my child in this way.

Thanks, that’s some relief. Still sad to think that there are people like that out there. I stand by my last sentence, I hope whoever did this is swiftly executed. I remember the very first reports on the Susan Smith affair, the local reporters played it straight, but there was something in their tone and expression that conveyed skepticism. When Charles Stuart committed suicide, it was like a bolt from the blue. I guess the cops were on to him and had turned his worthless brother. (His brother died in a homeless shelter, age 45, a couple years ago.)

If the killers are caught, they won't be executed--and they will probably be free to walk the streets at 21 and hunt for some more victims.

At least that scene had somewhat of a happy ending. If only....
Depending upon on how fast the police got there, and being that the kids may have been on foot, and that it is a residential area, and it was a school day, I’m surprised that the police didn’t catch them that day and that it has taken this long.
Six months back, one of my nephews was attacked by 6-8 blks back East while he was walking to his vehicle. They beat his head off the street, several skull fractures, lucky to be alive but still suffering vision & hearing loss. My nephew was a big boy, 6,2 played football, big body builder; also an accountant; but he didn't have a 1911 on his person that evening.
Many years back, I was shot at by a car load of blks in a failed robbery attempt. I'll never forget those orange flashes and the bullets whizzing by. I didn't have a gun on me that night either. I've relived that incident in my mind many times. I've been armed ever since and for the life of me it has never happened again all these years. NO matter that I'm ready to go with Treyvon nowadays.

What? I agree that light-skinned blacks are often far more anti-white than dark-skinned blacks, and it’s because they want prove to other blacks that they’re truly black. Shelby Steele has spoke on this; and Ben Jeaolus, President of the NAACP, is a good example.
With that said, where I live there is no shortage of racist dark-skinned blacks.
As for your “connection”, it’s pretty easy to see the correlation between demographic percentages and violent crime rate in any area of the country, so much so that you can pretty much say that one indicates the other.

I don’t think anyone who would shoot a baby could think it through that far. This was either a nitwit “Sarah Smith” stun or the act of feral nitwit.
Still, one thinks of the Einsatzgruppen who were filmed shooting mothers shielding babies with their bodies and then shooting the babies. I’d like to think that I would have shot myself first.
