Starbucks chief executive Howard Schultz on Wednesday defended the companys decision to support marriage equality, and told investors that if they werent on board, they could sell their stock and go elsewhere.
Howard Schultz Last year, the Seattle-based company announced its support for legalizing same-sex marriage in Washington state, prompting opponents of the measure notably the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage to launch a boycott of Starbucks.
At the companys annual meeting Wednesday, shareholder Tom Strobhar described Starbucks first-quarter performance as disappointing, and suggested that was due in part to the boycott.
In the first fill quarter after this boycott was announced, our sales and our earrings shall we say politely were a bit disappointing, Strobhar said.
Unfazed, Schultz replied that the companys decision to support marriage equality was not the bottom line, but about respecting diversity, reported KPLU.
At one point they included pro-homosexual slogans on their coffee cups.
And what do you expect from a company in perhaps THE most pagan city in this country?
(By that I mean Washington state has LONG had the highest dechurched rates of ANY state; and Seattle is probably the top dechurched city in Washington state)
I've been boycotting Starbucks for a long time
Did they support this 10 years ago? Were they against it that year?
I stopped doing business there years ago when they were supporting Planned Parenthood.

He recently sold 1,000,000 shares. Maybe he knows something.
Well I support Dunkin Donuts and their coffee is pretty darn good to me so Starbutts can go stuff it. I’ll go burn my own coffee beans if I get the hankering..
Why are gun owners such big fans of Starbucks? The coffee giant is pretty tolerant about gun owners, and its open-carry policy allows customers with firearms to enter its stores like any other customer. As long as youre abiding by local laws, your right to bear arms and your right to a skinny cinnamon dolce latte (no whip, no foam) are guaranteed.
It causes fear and intimidation among the public, Brian Malte of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, which participated in the boycott, told NBC Washington. We dont think Starbucks customers or the public in general should have to deal with people who are obviously not uniformed police officers carrying loaded, open-carry guns in public.
(With multiples time the caffeine you'd buy with store-bought coffee...to mainline its addicts)
Get the picture?
Not surprising, I never drank Starbucks, its not that good tasting and its a ripoff.
Its for those yuppie fools who want the status of the name.
Ironically McDonalds coffee has had the best tasting coffee or those type of outlets for a fraction of the price,
it would do the shareholders a whole lot more good if Star*ucks would improve the quality of their coffee (add some flavor, maybe?)
and avoid spending corporate resources on unrelated (and very controversial, for that matter) social issues
perhaps instead of some shareholders selling out, they might make out a lot lot better if they sued for “waste of corporate resources,” etc.
What exactly is this Starbucks that they speak of? Ain’t none of them where we live. Guess I’m glad there ain’t cause I wouldn’t want to not have to go there.
The Seattle Seahawks NFL football team has also supported Planned Parenthood.
'Tis paganite Seattle...
I rarely have visited a Starbucks. And, the few times I have it’s typically been when someone else was buying or I had received a Starbucks giftcard. From now on I will not patronize their immoral company.
We don’t go there anymore either!
We FReeps just exercising our own ‘coffee equality’ rights ay? Businesses that pee off half their customers aren’t too bright but plenty arrogant.
Corporations should just shut up and focus on their products. Promoting a sodomite lifestyle is not a winning proposition.
I buy a Sumatra dark roast for $10AUD - run it through my drip coffee maker - absolute best ever taste!!!!
They screw horses, don’t they?
I try to avoid doing business with any company that supports PP. No worry about me ever supporting the Seahawks ;)
